How big is your garage door for your boat and truck?. I am shying away from a 3 door garage to a single and a 20ft double for the boat and truck. Bass boat has 88″ beam( single axle) plus trailer and full size truck. Could I get by with an 18 or stay with the 20′. In the future a tandem trailer is not out of the question.Whatdaya think?

How often are you moving in and out ? If its every weekend, go with the 20′. If its out in the spring, and in the fall in, go with the 18′.

My theory, if you are actually debating, you should go for the bigger of the two, otherwise you will always regret the smaller.

Go with the big one, you will not be disapointed.

If there is a possible upgrade in the future, always go bigger.

I’d go with three doors and you will have extra space between vehicles. If you must go down to the pair, I’d go with a 20 over an 18.

Bigger is always better. Small single doors would be a pain in the butt with boats and snowmobiles.

Don’t forget the “height” of the door. Get the taller door so you can stand up in your boat without bumping your head on the garage door. Also, some SUV’s with luggage racks cannot get into garages with shorter doors. With the taller garage door I can back my snowmobile trailer in the garage, open the hood on the snowmobiles and run the machines. The door does not hit the open hoods as it goes up and down.

And if you go with a big door don’t skimp on the hinges and struts. i would make sure its beefy if your using it every day or every other and down the road you will have troubles.i would go 8′ and if its 8 panels i would put a strut on each panel and if you use and opener i would maybe even put 2 on the top panel..I’ve put alot in and you can’t have to many struts.

Thanks for all the input.I am going to a bigger door because of the angle I will have to back up at. I will not have a straight shot while backing in and do not want to hit the doorway some night in the dark. . If a tandem trailer is in my future the 20ft door would be the best because they( boat trailer) dont move very easy by hand. .
