16′ alumacraft flat bottom, 60 inch wide bottom. 76″ at the beam. 1978 35 hp johnson and shorelander trailer all in good to better than average condition.

This is one of my rigs, just wondering what its worth as I intend to give it to my 16 yo son but I need a ballpark figure to give to the “Ex” as she said she will pay half of whatever I find for my son who is looking for a new boat/trailer. I figure I can tell her her half is 600 bucks, then take that money and have the engine gone thru BEFORE he takes it home and she makes him run it “as is”.
The motor could use a good tune up and probably a new water pump impeller. I think it also need a coil pack as it sometimes misses on one cylinder.

    Any other suggestions/ideas/input?

I will chip in since no one has answered. You can use NADA guides. I think that will be pretty objective. However, some people will claim that the prices quoted there are not realistic….perhaps they are biased or have certain other interests. In any case, there is no other price guides that I know of. But I think you are pretty close to the figure. With the motor tune up and stuff, it could be closer to USD500. But hey, it is your ex….that does muddy the waters a little, doesn’t it? And also, you are selling/giving it to your son, so….I guess the price does not matter that much, really.

Tell her it is worth about $24,000 and she can pay you only half…. …you make a few bucks

I dont know an actual value, but I can tell you that your rig is exactly what Im looking for. Here in Central Iowa I cant find a boat and trailer like yours for 1200, let alone a motor on it too.

How old is the boat and trailer? A new trailer would run around $6oo. Motor in running condition must be 3 to 5 hundred. Any extras on it. Welded boat might be 800. Rivited might run 5oo.

Without doing any research, I’m thinking a good ’78 35hp motor is worth $600-$700.00. The boat should carry $500-$600 on it’s own and the trailer………… $250. If it’s as old as the motor, it’s likely to have some rust and wear so I’m thinking $250.00 tops. If you high end my guesstimations, that’s $1550.00. Stay that figure and under and you are in a range that is arguably realistic. By that, I mean that if you’re value is challenged, it wouldn’t be too hard to find comparible items as proof of legitimacy.

    Good luck!

Oh yeah, don’t use the NADA. There’s no bias, it’s just not regionally accurate. Do your values according to what it’s going to cost you to buy them. Look up dealer prices, private sales, and you’ll quickly conclude that NADA doesn’t hold true to what goes on in the Minneapolis area markets

NADA says, if everything is 1978 vintage, it’s worth about $900 to $1000. I’m guessing that is a little on the light side because the valued a 1978 35 HP Johnson at $70 . I think you can get that much for it as scrap!!!

    NADA guides are a joke.

That motor you can expect to pay close enough to $1000 to call it $1000.. I have been looking at the market for a year.. and that is what they are. They dont really decrease in value until you hit the old ones with shear pins.. and they will still cost you $750+. We could sell a 16′ rowboat in fair condition about any day of the week for $1000 if its sitting on a trailer.. A good wide Jon are a bit harder to come by and have more value than a basic bench V hull.

That package is worth $2000 any and every day of the week, and I wouldnt sell it for under $1500 to a friend..

In this case its your ex.. I dont think she is on the christmas card list so $2000 is a very fair price.

$200 tops will get that thing a good tune up.. about the same would give your kid a depth finder to use that will be dependable, another $100 would get a skeg guard if you really want it to last for him.

Just my $.17 1/2 cents worth.
