In being able to help more people enjoy their time on the water more with fishing reports, products talk, techniques shared and just plain good o’l fishin talkin it would be very helpfull to know how you first heard of IDA and why you signed up as a member. This would help the staff to know better how to reach out to more fisherpeople. Thank You very much for your response to this thread.
    Thanks, Bill

I first heard of IDA [a site was called Fish The River/Fish The Lake] from a fishing buddy so I went and bought a computer to get the fishing reports. I registered to be able to see what posts were new and what was old so I wasn’t reading each one twice or more. Best decission I ever made.

    Thanks, Bill

This is my first post…9/02/04 (the attachment didn’t work!)

I too was just stumbling around the web and found Fishtheriver.com. I was really bummed when I attempted to get on the site and found it was no more. But I think this site is even better and I visit almost daily! Thanks all for a great place to relax and escape from the daily drag so to speak.

A member on another forum was answering a question I had concerning my Lowrance. He put a link to the Doc Sampson thread on this site. I quickly book marked the site and have been visiting daily since.

I learned about it from my fishing Buddy Bret Clark. I was on the site for quite a while as a lurker to see his posts and others that I found interesting and at his urging decided to join and participate. Now it’s a part of daily life.

Talked with BrianK a number of times on the Croix. He mentioned this site.

Here is my first post, from my first year of fishing the river!

    Where are they at?

Fished by Steamboat last night in the normal “hot stops” couldn’t mark or catch a single thing. Tried a couple other spots up the river and still not one eye. Any one else having this problem or is it just me? I’m jigging with a fathead from 12-25 ft. Going out again tonight and would like to land something. Any help would be great.

And Tuck replied “leave the minnows and leechs at home, plastics is the key”

I was told about the site by IDA’s one and only “Puddlepounder”. Even though I question his fishing prowess, I DO admit he is a relative! lol

Although I rarely post on ANY message boards these days as I disagree with the alias signature structure of most, I will say that IDA is one of the most friendly, informative internet sites that exist. I surely commend all who are involved from every aspect of IDA! I recommend IDA to everyone I know, to use as their key fishing related reference on the net.

    Thank you IDA!

I had a friend (George) show me the site. He is still a lurker (whadup with that George ) but I’m still working on him!
Like Mike C said, it becomes a part of life if you love to fish! Signing up is the best thing I ever did. It sure helped put fish in the boat after making friends and sharing info through PM’s I found out I’m not the only one with the “Gotta Fish” disease

Bill, I heard about this site from one of my computer illiterate co-workers who would come into my office wanting to know what was happening up at Evert’s and Pool 4/5 on the Mississippi River. I’ve looked at the info on the forum for a couple of years now, but I didn’t sign up until I wanted to shop for a boat last February. This is a great place to spend some time learning, shopping and communicating with other like-minded people. Thanks, Tut

I was not a walleye fisherman mostly bass never had fished for walleyes before. Had a freind invite me to fish walleye out of Everts one spring. After that I was looking for information about Everts on the net and came across FishTheRiver web site. Booked a guide trip with James and the rest is history.

I found ida by searching through another forum (fishingminnesota.com) and scott steil put a post about mille lacs maybe putting a 48″ minimum length on muskies on. i didnt like the idea so i clicked his link and have been comming here every day multiple times a day. here is my first post. after i posted it i realized not too many people agreed with me.

“I am against a 48″ regulation. after all of the money that we spend on equipment for the sport i believe that the 40″ mark is enough. i dont mean to start a fire here but since i am still looking for my first i am desperate. these fish are very difficult to catch. maybe a 42 inch minimum or 45 inch but not 48. i understand that we can now get replicas and many people think they look the same and mean the same. but not for me. i dont think i would ever get a replica, it is not only because i dont think they look the same but a replica also doesn’t do justice for me. it is not even the fish that you caught. i believe that if you put a fish back and you are going to get a replica, i say dont waste your money. just put a blown up picture on your wall. it is cheeper and at least you are looking at a REAL fish. i think that if we get a 48″ minimum length than the DNR should also make a point restriction on bucks so we get more and bigger bucks. how many of you would support this topic. how about a 10 point buck or bigger. as one of my favorite comedians have said. it is like wiping before you poop, it just makes no sence. i am sorry to all of you fisherman out there that like this proposal. i live on the lake in wahkon bay and still cand even get a 20″ ski. i have had many follows and i cant see what i am doing wrong, i really hope this doesnt happen.”

i really like this site. definatly the best fishing web site i have ever been to and plan to keep comming back day in and day out. thanks to all the people that keep it going and make ida worth visiting.

I heard about it from my father-in-law who is a Walleye Central user. He suggested I find the FTR site because it had a lot of information specific to the Mississippi.

I had been driving 3-hours north every weekend to since I was 7 (every weekend!). My parents had/have a house on a lake near Alex, MN, so we always went out of town. It’s great. But,…. as I got older and had my own family, I was searching for ways/methods to stay closer to home for options with the wife/kids. As I got older, I also found that going out of town every weekend was not always a desire. I started searching the Net for closer to home fishing opportunities under the premis that I could do quick one day trips, still catch lots of fish and then be back home that same day. Knowing the river was in my backyard, I started hunting for fishing info on the river when I got my home computer. I soon found FishtheRiver.com and registered as a member in 2001. I became a regular follower of the forums – trying to learn as much as I could. I don’t post much, but I follow and read the forums almost every day. I also follow one other walleye site on a regular basis – all for the same reasons …still learning every day.

I seen the website banner at a bait shop and since that time have checked the site regularly. I look at most of the boat ads to see what I may someday be able to upgrade to. Fishing equipment and technique threads are also favorites. I don’t post much because I don’t think people want to hear still trying to figure out walleye, skunked again. This site is a wealth of info, I wish the users in the quad city area would post more.(Thanks for the posts Robby)

    THANKS IDA

I’ve been lurking since the FTR days back in early ’01, was searching web for info on catching walleyes in border waters once the inland water season closed, finally registered May of ’01, and today – still pretty much lurking and learning. Lots of Walleyes that I never would have caught if I hadn’t found the site though. Thanks everyone – especially James.

I like many others put in a search on fishing and I believe at the time I came on, it was EFN. Shortly after it became IDA and here I am still today. I have searched far and wide on the net for fishing info and IDA is hands down the friendliest, has the most informative postings, and a slew of very knowledgeable people on-board. And the member info goes far beyond fishing topics. We have people from all walks of life on here that are more than willing to offer advice on just about anything
