Ditto. He gave a lot of cheer to all in this State for so many years.
Wow! What a loss….March 7, 2006 at 12:57 am #427228Followed the story all day like a lot of you guys. Didn’t sound good from the start. Anyone who saw him play was a fan. I’ll never foget his World Series play. Priceless!

March 7, 2006 at 1:06 am #427232I talked with Puck several times while covering the Twins as a sports reporter. Truly a great man on AND off the field. One of a kind person and he will be greatly missed. There IS crying in baseball tonight.
jeremy2323Posts: 116March 7, 2006 at 1:10 am #427237Kirby and Herbie made the twins worth watching. I was absolutely nuts about Twins baseball ’85 through ’95. I told my wife if we had twins we would name them Kirby and Herbie. Sad day for baseball….

corey-studerPosts: 423March 7, 2006 at 1:12 am #427242He truly touched many people on and off the field. I’ll never forget the times he came in to Galyan’s (where I used to work) and we’d talk a little sports but, more of the outdoors and fishing. He truly had a passion for the outdoors! He’ll definately be missed but, not forgotten. Our prayers go out to his family and friends.
March 7, 2006 at 1:13 am #427243And… we will seeya tomorrow night!! Gives me chills whenever I hear or think about that game.
March 7, 2006 at 1:15 am #427244This is a sad day…from 1984-1996 there was no bigger name/face in the state, heck in the midwest….heck, maybe in MLB….
I have met many big names in my life, but Kirby made the most impact…at one point, I probably had the biggest Kirby Puckett memorbilia collection in the world….had a little bit o this, a little bit o that….Kirby Puckett Pancakes, the Kirby Bar, bobbleheads, you name it…I had stuff people never knew they made….still have over 200 different Kirby baseball cards, including all of his rookie cards…
my point? I have met many big names, pro sports mainly….but I have only two autographs in my collection…and one is Kirby’s….the man was a class act until glaucoma took his career early…..always had a smile, always had a pen for kids, always had time for a picture…spoke with him several times at Twinsfests, outfield at games, etc…..
this is a sad day….if ever there was an icon that I looked up to…Kirby was it.
Kirby…..R.I.P
bradgPosts: 507March 7, 2006 at 1:35 am #427253This is a sad sad day for baseball. One of the sports greats, I guess the home team needed another all-star in the clouds. RIP Kirby. Thanks for the great entertainment growing up
TOUCH EM” ALL KIRBY
March 7, 2006 at 1:50 am #427257I just wish that my kids could have seen him play…he did his job like all of us should…he loved it. He smiled. In success and failure, he was class from start to finish…Diggin out my highlight tapes, gonna dust off the VCR…could be a late night.
shaylaPosts: 1399March 7, 2006 at 2:51 am #427279I’ll never forget how proud I was to be from Minnesota when Kirby hit “the” World Series homerun in 1987! I was stationed overseas in Korea and it was a tremendous feeling to be a Minnesotan that year because of Kirby! Death comes to us all, but it’s sad to see one of the Greats go so soon. Who can ever fill Kirby’s shoes, I do not know?
March 7, 2006 at 2:52 am #427281Wow, what a loss. It’s been a sad evening. Watching his bio on ESPN brings back alot of memories. Hard to describe what this guy meant to the Twins and their fans. If I had to try I’d start with the fact that I took my wife to Cooperstown for our 5 year anniversary. Happened to coincide with his induction. Turned out to be a great weekend. Just another great memory.
We’ll miss you Kirby!
March 7, 2006 at 3:29 am #427298My wife consented. In 1993, we spent our honeymoon at the Holiday Inn, Metrodome and for the next week, watched 7 twins games….why? Kirby Puckett.
There IS crying in Baseball. Tonight is the night.
March 7, 2006 at 4:33 am #427325And of course the one we all remember and will never forget.
We’ll see ya tomorrow night!
March 7, 2006 at 4:58 am #427335Best smile in baseball. He had fun and was fun to watch.. R.I.P. Kirby!
March 7, 2006 at 1:27 pm #427369What a sad day. It’s great to know that he touched so many people. I was a huge fan of his. I was fortunate enough to be able to see many Twins’ games and was even there for game 7 of the 87 World Series. I think it’s amazing the outpouring of love for this guy. I heard that Bob Costas even named his 3rd son’s middle name Kirby.
#34 will be missed.
SteveMarch 7, 2006 at 2:02 pm #427392He definitely is the man. I think there is no doubt he did touch ’em (us) all. One sports celebrity that never lost touch with the real world and the fans. You’ll be missed #34 , but not forgotten.
jldiiPosts: 2294March 7, 2006 at 2:09 pm #427397Somewhere in heaven, a PA announcer is doing an imitation of Bob Casey………….
“For the Twins…
Batting 3rd…
Playing centerfield…
Number 34…
Kiiirrrrby Puuucccket!”
Like someone else said earlier,….today, there is crying in baseball.
March 7, 2006 at 2:53 pm #427412Great Player, he was definatly the Man for the Twins.
Besides his Hr in Game 6, how about the “Catch” against the Plexiglass, unbelievable.
You don’t get many players like Kirby anymore that get on a team a stay, what a class act.
