    Hi guys!
I’m not sure about taking this Crystal Pierz job or not! My main goal is to spend as much time on the water as possible. It doesn’t sound like I would have the freedom to do that, like I do now. Does working for the industry that I find fun going to make me regret not having the time and freedom to do what I actually WANT to be doing? Can I really give up the guaranteed paychecks and 4 weeks of vacation for a “I don’t know” scenario every month? Does it do me any good to have a new boat in the garage if I can’t use it? Help fellas!!!!

IMHO, the last thing you want to do if you love to fish is get into the boat biz. My 2 cents…

I know what you mean. I wanted to start a bait shop, but then I would not be on the water as much as I would like.
Will you have weekends or days off? You maybe able to operate some really kool rides.
Best of luck if you take the job.

From everything I’ve read at this site, Jolly Marine has a top notch reputation. Reputations are earned not given. I would listen to what he has to say. Advice from someone of his experience can be priceless, particularly when it comes to something as important as fishing vs working.

Once I took a sales job at a local music store with hopes of ultimately snagging an open position teaching a full roster of students. 9 years later I’d been all over the nation running sound for some of the top names in the music industry. I never did get the job teaching in the store. Instead, my sales & customer service skills I attained we’re invaulable in getting me where I am today…19 years later (married, kids, house, etc) I don’t regret a thing. Met lifelong friends that had great positive influence on me. My point.. everything happens for a reason. Wherever you want to be in life, if you really want it, you’ll get there.

So you have an offer but are still deciding?
If the gut says no than I would go with that. BUT if the oppertunity is a good one you must consider all options.

    TNugent said it here first:
“Wherever you want to be in life, if you really want it, you’ll get there.”
It may take a bit of sacrifice but he is right on target!

Good luck and if you want to PM me about the World Ventures you were inquring about I would be happy to speak with you.

I worked 15 yrs in the PCB electronics industry which has pretty much died off in this region. I had the freedom of most of my weekends and lots of vacation time to get out and do what I love to do (that’s fishing). When our company closed 3 yrs back I had the task of finding a new career. Spending the past 15 yrs in a field that pretty much vanished I needed to learn somthing new. I am now a sales rep for McKays Chrysler Jeep and Dodge. It’s tough! been 2 years now working Saturday (get one off every 4 weeks) and dealing in high retail is a real gamble if you ask me right now. It can only get better so they say.
You have a tough decision, but I would go with your gut feeling on this one. You know whats in your case now. So deal? or No deal?
ps I miss my weekends badly. And knowing what income I would have.

I already know this is going to get a responce from Briank, but here goes.

I grew up loving the golf course. I was even pretty good at it. After High school I decided to get in the buisness. I spent the next 6 years playing competitive golf and running golf shops. The common responce is “What a great Life.”

Well…. 4 years ago I got out of the buisness. I have picked up the golf clubs 3 time since. I only did so to make my fauther happy. I have very little desire to play any more.

I have sworn to never take somthing I love and turn it into a job again.

    Just my experience.

My $.02 worth so here it goes.

When I got out of high school I had an oportunity to play college football and get a education for nothing. Seems like a no brainer, but it also means 5 years without a hunting season. It was a tough call at the time, but I loved to play football, and a free education was hard to decline.

So a long story longer… I ended up playing football, had the time of my life, missed hunting for a few years, but did not regret one moment of it. I comes down to looking in your heart to find out what you really want. If being involved in fishing on a daily basis is right for you, then go for it. You may end up loosing your weekends, but may get a chance to do more fishing on weekdays.

Good luck in your decision. It is never easy to make a life changing change, especially when you don’t know where it will bring you. As my Grandmother always says, everything happens for a reason, you just need to figure out why.

Your post indicates you have significant resevations about making this change. Most, if not all, of the bad decisions I have made over time have been due to ignoring my ‘gut’ instincts and going with what seemed to be the logical decision. I have come to rely heavily on a “To Thine Own Self be True” philosophy on these types of things! My opinion would be to listen to that inner voice.

I can understand your dilemma. I have been in auto sales for 4 years now and its very tough giving up Saturdays and not knowing what you are going to make each month.

On the other hand, I don’t know where I could go and make the money that sales people can make and have as much fun doing it, but I guess that depends where you work and what you enjoy doing.

Going fishing is definately limited by working a sales position so good luck in your decision!

There is one thing about sales that you will have to live with, and that is rejection. As a salesman, you will have more people say “no” to buying from you than will say “yes”. That is just the nature of the business. It is also the gamble you have to decide if you want to make. If you are good at sales, you can make lots of money. If you aren’t, you will be looking for a new job in only a month or 2.

If you decide to give the job a shot, keep this in mind…..every time a customer says “no” to buying from you, you are just that much closer to the person who is going to say “yes”!! If you only close 1 out of every 10 deals you write, you want to get past those other 9 as fast as you can, and learn from them as much as you can. Don’t be affraid to ask questions of the customers, but always listen to what they say with an open mind, because they will tell you just what they want you to tell them, if you listen.

Good luck, with what ever decision you make.

Making the ” Big Change ”

I also looked into the boat selling business just last year!!!!! I found out how much time I would be selling and not fishing! well I stuck with what I was doing….bending nails!! Carpentry !! It allows me to take a day here and there to guide or fish a tournament!!!

I worked prior to moving back home to Mille Lacs in manufacturing for 21 years……left it in 1997 and never let the door hit me in the b-hind. I don’t have the income that I had been receiving, but money does’nt buy happiness!! Life can change in a day’s notice, live each one like it’s the last….as it can change in a minute’s notice

    Good luck…..

Hi guys, Thanks for the replys. It’s never been about money, I don’t excatly haul it in a NWA either, but I’m comfortable, making the bills and hunting and fishing whenever i choose. I just don’t want to watch everybody else pull there boat down the road and wish it was me! I guess the “grass isn’t always greener on the otherside”. After talking it over with wife, I’ve decided to saty at NWA. Maybe I’ll regret it, maybe not. I guess I just wasn’t ready for the uncertainty of sales. Thanks again guys, you made some great points!
