auger blade guards

I keep my auger blade guards on my auger when I get done digging holes. Yesterday I saw what happened to a beautiful springer spaniel when he slashed his paw on his master’s aguer. Nasty! It was real serious and the dog bled a lot. Thankfully their was snow on the ice and it might have helped with the wound and the owner left immediately to get the dog to the vets.

I am sure Scott will chime in on this post…He almost lost a finger this year due to his auger blades..
They do make them super sharp…Have to be careful!!

I was putting a new set on my auger this year. I just knicked the *&^#*#) thing and it blead for 30 minutes. YEP very sharp

I actually cut through a leather glove a couple of years ago. Just like a hot knife through butter. Be careful

I just saw the title of the thread and thought of Scott. I’ve had few run ins with those buggers. I swear they’re sharper than any knife I’ve ever owned. Leather gloves wont do you any good. I had a buddy put the point through his leather glove and into the palm of his hand. That was a quick fishing trip.

I bought a red replacement for mine at Wayzata Bait for well under $10 including the black rubber band thing.

I try to make sure the only time my cover is off is when I’m drilling. When the kids are with me I’m always alert to the auger and what they are doing, but honestly I never really thought of them in the way some here have experienced. I was more protecting the blades and warning the kids that they are sharp. This is a good heads up, my cover will be in place when not in use-period!
