I want to drive a dump truck on the ice with 7 tons of sand. We have 13″ of ice. Is this safe?

I would say NO. They say Big Pick Up Truck should have 12″. You throw Dump Truck and 7 tons of Sand, I think you are looking for trouble with 13″.

Maybe if the lake is 14 inches deep

I’d also have to say a big negative on that one!

Why do you need to haul sand on a lake? Driving something that heavy on any lake with that big of a load is better left to the Corp of Engineers. They specialize in that type of work.

There use to be a site that had the army corp.of enginers specs on ice strengths.Try and google that, sorry thats the best I could do…….Personally I wouldn’t drive my pickup on 13″ .I’m guessing it would take 20+” and a bigger set of nuts to do what your asking….

    good luck jiggle-jiggle

You need 24 + inches for that much weight. I replied to your other post.

Ok I’ll ask. Why are you hauling that much sand on the ice?

Seen it done many times on the IGL’s lakes. It’s an easy way for lake front home owners to get sand for there beach area. Also seen huge loads of rock go across the ice for landscape work.

Thanks for the input. I live on a little, man made lake, and need to add sand to my beach.

7 tons is only 3 1/2 yards wounldn’t take that long a with fourwheeler and alittle trailer, couple extra guys wouldn’t hurt either, much safer and good exercise
