Okay everyone, I posted a couple of weeks ago, a request for your preferred brand and techniques for fishing tubes. I got a great deal of good information from everyone on the site. Now, I am asking for your rod of choice for fishing tubes. I am thinking a 6’6″ Medium action spinning rod with a fast tip. What is your choice and if you can give me your reasons why you choose this particular rod.

    Thanks for everyone’s help.

i use a 7 ft mh fast action baitcaster. tubes only have one hook so you got to give it to them when they bite. so a longer stiffer rod is usually perfered by most

    JohnnyB,
I’m new to this site. I live in Alabama and fish for largemouths & Spotts. My rod of choice is the new 7’1″ medium action G.Loomis jig and worm rod. This rod is very powerful yet it still has a lot of tip. It is rated for 10-14 lb. line and 1/8-3/8 oz. lures. Depending on the cover I use 10 or 14 lb. berkley vanish florocarbon line. I usually use a 1/4 oz. weight. There has been many days that I don’t use another rod. This rod is perfect for tubes, worms, and light jigs. It is also an awesome buzz bait rod. I have even thrown spinnerbaits and crankbaits with this rod. With that light tip you can throw any bait a mile. At first I thought it was a waste to spend that much money on a rod, but after using these rods my pockets are open. This rod is the lightest and most sensitive rod I have ever fished. Matched with florocarbon line you can feel every blade of grass, every tiny pebble, and you can even feel the bass breath on your lure. If I had to truly pick one rod to use this would be it.

I use a 6’6″ St Croix MH spinning rod combo for a texas rigged tube, if using an exposed hook, you can down size. A lot depends on how you are fishing though. In heavy cover and flippin, I would use 17 lb on a heavy action flipping stick. Once again, depends on what/where I am fishing.

your rod choice is going to depend solely on how you plan on fishing the tube. Spinning gear with an exposed hook, baitcaster for texas rigging. My personal favorites for spinning gear is either a 6’8″ Avid MXF, or a 6’6″ Loomis IMX. The 6’6″ Falcon Cara is also a good rod for this application. When I’m pitching a smaller tube I use a 7’0″ MH GLX, and when I’m flipping a larger tube I’m definately going to be using a Falcon Expert 7’6″ Heavy action. Hope this helps.

I Guide for Bass mainly Canadian Shield lakes up here. I use tubes A LOT!!
Your choice is excellent if you are NOT fishing HEAVY cover. I use 6#-10# Sensation line and catch many bass from 2-6 lbs on either a 6’6″ Med Avid or 6’8″ MLXF. The lighter you go the more bites you’ll get…but you also need enough tackle to land em. When fishing clear water smallies on the rock/gravel bars its 6#-8#. Around heavier cabbage/log blow downs 10#.

PS…the longer rods do give you more LEVERAGE on the hookset. The 6’8″ is my favorite…

    Hi JohnnyB,
Welcome aboard ! I asked the same question about a year & half ago. All these great people hooked me up with information on tubes. I went out to Gander, hit up they’re clearnace sales on Pumpkin, Greens, Blacks, Salted, Purples, etc..My initial investment on just tubes was about $30.00 which was minimal but good enough for me to start out. I purchased a variety of sinkers, various 1/0, 2/0 3/0 and higher/thinner hooks. And went out and nailed the largemouths on the lake by my house. What fun it was !! If there is a Gander in Davenport, check out the clearance racks. 8 tubes or sometimes 10 tube packs ranged from $0.99 – $1.49
    Sincerely,
    Johnny C.

Also you mentioned rods.. 7 foot graphite IM7 design is what I use now.

I fish rock with little or no weeds. My rod of choice are either 6’8″ medium extra fast tip or an older 7′ medium light fast tip.
6 or 8 pound McCoy Mean Green fishing line.

St. Croix Avid 6’6” Med. fast tip spinning rod. I’m not a bass fisherman but like to throw plastics at times.
    Thanks, Bill

I would like to thank everyone for your input. A lot of good information was shared. I can’t speak for everyone but I place alot more value on the opinions of experienced fisherman than I do the sales ads.

    Thanks again for everyone’s help.
