BCM50 to Call Manager IP Communication

Does anyone here have any experience with direct IP communications between a Nortel BCM50 and a Cisco Call Manager? I’m dropping in 4 BCM50’s and one very expensive Call Manager in the next 18 months. All will be autonomous, but would like to have direct communication among systems.

I am a data-head who is getting into the telephony world in a big way. Would enjoy talking nerd stuff, if you are interested.

    Thanks,

    Jeffery

What you do is hook the whatchamagit to the dohiky and then cross reference that to the dealamajiger. Once that is done you are halfway there… ohh wait, I’m [censored]

    Nerds, Nerds, Nerds, Nerds……

Just kidding buddy. We have just rolled out CME in a couple small offices. Looking into the enterprise CM solution for the larger facilities. We have outsourced most of the installation to this point, but my head nerd is really picking the stuff up fast. Sure beats the junk Inter-tels we are running now.

    Mrjigger,

I want to do both. In my mind, I want to have all these autonomous systems that have a dialing plan and capability to utilize 4-digit dialing to communicate with each other. My backbone consists of primarily dedicted glass, but some sites will have DS1s and some even cable broadband with a VPN connection. My primary concern is that Nortel and Cisco are utilizing open standards that allow such communication. In the data world, ethernet is ethernet, unless you choose to use proprietary standards and protocols.

I’m going to VoiceCon 2006 in two weeks, in Orlando. I suppose I’ll learn a whole bunch more there. I’m staying at DW and plan on fishing while there.

With regards to the rest of you, especially Brian, go to your room. I love being a nerd almost as much as being a father and fishing.

I’m contracting in the beginning, but eventually will bring it in house.

    Kooty,

I didn’t realize you were a bithead. I found even CME is expensive for a small office, that’s why I settled on BCM.

    Koot,

That fancy tech-talk is pretty impressive for a guy from Highmore. Not that Fort Pierre is a genius factory. Our sale barn is better than yours!

I am the director of the IT dept. As one of my employees stated recently, I have moved over to the dimm side.

In all honesty, Nortel didn’t get much of a look from us. The sales rep kept trying to sell me call center junk I don’t need. Avaya snubbed us by calling my head nerd stupid(good marketing I told the regional manager). It was only a $500k sale they lost.

Cisco seems to solve all our problems, so we are rolling out CME where appropriate, 25 or less users. Long term we will be implementing CM and Unity across the enterprise and upgrade our CME sites. I’ve heard the horror stories about Cisco failing miserably, but I think if you dug enough, every company in the IPT market has failed at least once to this point.

I haven’t heard him called a “Bit Head”, but I have heard him called something that rhymes with that

33 lb test will work but I think you need to replace the canuder bearings and check the oil level on the biznitch.
