Minnesota’s recognition as some of the best freshwater fishing and hunting in the world is the result of the dedication of a lot of people and organizations. The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) recognized Turn In Poachers (TIP) as being one of those organizations during an awards ceremony Feb. 1 at Camp Ripley.

“Since its inception, TIP has been a deterrent to the senseless waste of wildlife and is extremely beneficial to the DNR Enforcement Division,” said Chief Conservation Officer Col. Mike Hamm.

Established in 1981, TIP is a private, nonprofit organization that provides monetary rewards of up to $1,000 to encourage the public to report natural resource violations. The information and the person reporting can be kept confidential.

“TIP has had many officers, directors and members who have worked countless hours without compensation and without recognition,” Hamm said. “We hope our small token of appreciation, serves to show our appreciation for all this organization does for us.”

Hamm said state conservation officers have made more than 5,000 cases over the past 25 years because of TIP, which has paid more than $350,000 in rewards.

Anyone witnessing a fish or wildlife code violation is encouraged to contact the TIP hotline at 1-800-652-9093.

Thank you for your interest in the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources!

TIP ON TIP LINE… I believe it was John Jordan that once posted to place this number in your cell phone. I’ve never used it…but like a spare tire, it’s nice to have when needed!

I just pulled out the cell phone to punch the number in and I already had it in there. I have been pretty close to calling them a couple times. I always through a couple bucks in their raffle when I see them at Game Fair.

I think with the advent of cell phones and the TIP line, it really helps keeping the honest people honest.

I know it did me last weekend fishing..I REALLY wanted to use my wheeler go pull my shack up a very long hilly trail that was posted No Motor Vehicals Allowed…

    Still coughing and whezzing!

Nothing more satisfying then calling in a boat that has been putting 13 inch after 13 inch WALLEYES in their livewell when the minimum is 15 inch……. Trust the system, believe in the system, abide by the system and if you don’t like it take CONSTRUCTIVE measures to change the system. Anyone can b_tch and complain, it takes intellectual people to make this planet a better place for the next generation of anglers….. (that was a lil’ deep but I couldn’t stop my fingers)……..

I’ve used it too, during the duck season when a guy was hunting past the legal time and leaving his decoys out overnight. They really cooked his goose!
