Found this link Real Hunters On another site and thought the IDA members should see this. Some one has started a petition to take Jimmy Houston off of ESPN and The Outdoor channel. You need Flash Player 8 to view the video.

I think this happens a lot more than we realize…Sad but true…
Wonder about all his turkey hunts in Florida????Same thing or what…Kind of sickening if you ask me…
Just another way for a big name “sportsman” to line his pockets with more money with endorsements… If this leaks out I would think he is going to be hurting…Heck I am interested in seeing what is going to happen since the video hit the internet.
February 3, 2006 at 8:05 pm #417463I’m speechless.
That was about as “fair chase” as taking a 12 guage to a parrot in a bamboo cage.
February 3, 2006 at 8:09 pm #417467Like Cal said……….These “canned” hunts happen alot…….More than what we realize……..I never knew they drugged the animals though…….
Yep, they sure are “heros” aren’t they?
February 3, 2006 at 8:11 pm #417469For those of us that cannot view the video at work and only have dial up at home… can someoe explain what exactly it was about? TIA
February 3, 2006 at 8:14 pm #417471Terrible.Jimmy is taking alot of heat over this on his website. Not good for him. It’s like shooting a pet at those places.
Ryan HaleFebruary 3, 2006 at 8:21 pm #417474Pets get treated better. If they don’t you go to jail for animal cruelty.
The worst was the dying deer that they claimed “was dying of non-hunting related injuries.” The deer was propped up against a tree, while it continued to suffer towards death, only to have the camera crew come back again to reposition it to get the shot right.
If I heard the video right, the person doing the shooting paid $15,000 to shoot a deer propped against a tree.
GNFISNPosts: 208February 3, 2006 at 8:25 pm #417477Nice… this guy is a “profesional outdoorsman” , and people are supposed watch his show and take advice from him?! What sort of message does this send. (tell me he doesent kiss it afterwards) – Cory
February 3, 2006 at 8:36 pm #417482Idiots!! That makes me so angry…that is just great, think about how that makes the genuine hunter look…
February 3, 2006 at 8:43 pm #417489“SO THAT’S HOW YOUR SUPPOSE TO HUNT” I GET IT NOW YOU HAVE SOMEONE GO OUT AND GIVE THE DEER THAT DATE RAPE DRUG FIRST THEN SHOOT THE ANIMAL. OR TRANQUILIZE THE BIG ONE IN THE WILD PEN IT UP THEN JIMMY CAN PAY $20,000 FOR HIS SHOW/SHOT!!! WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO HUNTING HARD AND THE THE SASISFACTION OF YOUR HARD WORK? PEOPLE ARE LOSING THE SITE OF WHAT ANY REAL HUNT IS ABOUT.
“I WONDER HOW MANY DRUGGED AND PENED UP BASS JIMMY AND OTHERS HAVE CAUGHT OVER THE YEARS?”
February 3, 2006 at 8:50 pm #417497What kind of a “man” does it take to do something like this? I played this for some fellow coworkers and they were totally shocked. I don’t get it I really don’t. Ted Peck if you read this…you should look into this in Wisconsin and see what you can come up with.
February 3, 2006 at 9:00 pm #417501Wow, all I can say is PETA wasnt happy when they saw this. This is not good for the ethical deer hunter.
February 3, 2006 at 9:05 pm #417505I am with all you guys, this just plain old sucks. I am under the distinct impression that this happens all the time How many shows have you watched where “hunter orange” is not required. Stuff like this hurts more that just J.H., it is just more fuel for all the orginizations that are trying to take it away from all of us.
February 3, 2006 at 9:30 pm #417516I never did like his haircut !!! He’s right at home in that commercial with Parker for Morrell targets, “BOZO” !!!
big g
February 3, 2006 at 9:57 pm #417526Folks with big $…. I just threw up in the garbage can, that is so not right
February 3, 2006 at 10:17 pm #417534That’s why I never watch deer hunting shows on TV. They are all bull. Anyone can shoot a frickin deer in a cage. What a bunch of losers.
Jimmy Houston should be drugged and have an arrow shot up his!
February 3, 2006 at 11:07 pm #417549i watch fewer outdoor shows every year buckmasters and the linders are about the only ones i believe in anymore, i’ve always said i would like to see “pro” outdoorsman hunt or fish in my spots to see just how good they really are.
February 4, 2006 at 1:03 am #417621Right now in our state they want to pass city ordinances to allow bow hunting right in town I understand there deer control reasoning but can you imagine some of the pics that could become of this and worse possible video,s Alot of these deer that reside deep inside city limits are not human afraid I just don,t think it would be good for our sport over all
February 4, 2006 at 1:12 am #417625I’m not sure about that. Herd control and this video are two, very different things. These videos are just sickening
I understand herd controlFebruary 4, 2006 at 1:15 am #417627Joe, I won’t debate you over whether hunting in city limits is right or wrong, you have some great points on the pictures and video that could come of that and only fuel the fire for PETA type people. That could get ugly.
But from personal experience from hunting what I call unpressured deer, they are afraid of humans. They may not be afraid of a guy mowing his lawn, trimming the hedges, sitting on the deck observing them, even dogs barking and playing or whatever urban type situation you may imagine. They do definately become immune to those types of interferences, But they are just as life preserving, aware of their surroundings, and scared of a certain type of human presense. When you try to get in their domain and crawl up in a tree or hide in a deadfall or whatever it may be, all their senses are there. I have even found that they can be harder at times to fool because they are so intimate with their surroundings.
Now to JH. I didn’t even watch that video clip or whatever it may be. I know it would bother me. I hate that stuff. It makes me sad, angry, and almost feel sorry for such a loser to have to hunt like that.February 4, 2006 at 1:27 am #417631I try to explain myself allittle better presently I hunt inside the city limits of Mason City Ia by permit These area are on the out skirts of town and at the least a couple hundred yards from housing some recent proposals want to allow hunting right in residental area,s we all know that bow kills can go long distances before dieing I just worry that we might get some bad exsposere I am a avid hunter but I think we ought to keep it out of inhabited areas. I believe it would hurt our sport to have deer dieing in back yards
February 4, 2006 at 1:27 am #417632ERonnigan has it right on these “urban” deer. They are as tough or tougher to hunt than most realize. The outdoor writers make them out to be easy, but it is just not so. I used to hunt an area surrounded by homes. I got the biggest buck of my life in that area, but I sure had to work for him. They get used to many things, but they have that 6th sense on high alert when you are hunting them. I too think they are VERY intimate with their surroundings in the city. One little thing out of place and they know it.
February 4, 2006 at 1:47 am #417635We all knew these kind of serious offenses and just plain rotten types of things happened by those who could pay for them, i’ve heard of this stuff in the past. It just goes to show that when theres money involved in promoting a hunt(or fishing) for tv this kind of crap happens. These guys forgot about there integrity along time ago. Jimmy Houston? i thought he was ok but it sure as heck looks like he isn’t, no place for him in my woods. Did you see where in that fenced in farm that after they got busted the lobyiest talked to someone further up the line and got laws passed the next week making everything that was done illegal on this farm ok to do in the future, that stinks and it stinks bad. Just goes to show if you know someone in the right place stuff like this gets covered up or changed to thier benifit. Im willing to bet that the people that changed the law or whoever it was that they got ahold of to get the laws changed after those offenses, all hunt this farm and probably thats where they intertain certain people who hunt when they want to get laws passed. Ive heard in the past that when they want to get laws passed or contracts givin out to the right people this is one way they get the stuff they want. This type of thing has other offenses writting all over it. Here in Iowa the dnr has to right to walk into any game farm and check it out anytime of night or day, they should there too. I know a guy who raises deer and his pens are sparkling clean with grass all over and no bare spots, just goes to show thier raising deer just for the money and to heck with the care of the animal. Boy Jimmy houston sure is a good shot isn’t he and the way he called him in was the best i’ve ever seen…hes as bad as the rest of the clowns

Who cares, these people put there own feet in there mouths daily. We should be aware of PETA, but still back up are ethics with facts.
The videos are not what we (true hunters, NRA, Wild life enthusiast and so on) are about.
I agree with ERonningen and Wats both. Wild life knows when it is being hunted or just adored.
I like doing bothFebruary 4, 2006 at 4:03 pm #417749I could not view the picture. But have known for years how fake so much of this is. There are a lot of these game farms all over the country. And are used by many sports writers. When you see these Pro Bass fishermen catching fish after fish they are doing it when the spawn is on. Have seen it happening on Toledo Bend Lake. Go to any fish spawning bed and you will always catch fish. Be a guide and fish with ALL the elaments against you and see the
difference.
