Warren- Isn’t that the bottom end of pool 4, with the Alma dam at the very bottom of the image??

Warren, I see you are a cartographer. Where do you work? Are you using the USGS EMTC data?

I work on my own. If you go into one of the bait shops NE of St Paul you’ve likely seen my local maps I’ve mapped and made computer models of.

Hansens Little Bear in White Bear
    Frankie’s at Chisago
Mike’s Bait on 8 – Forest Lake, just reopenned
Rush Point Store just south of West Rush
    Twin Pine – Ham Lake

The last couple of years I’ve had to stick close to home so I’ve been working on things that Bruce Samson can use.

    Hey Warren!
I think I have one of your East Rush Lake maps. I really like the tinting on that map and the GPS grids overlay. And the backside of the map has the depth in 1′ increments and marks rocks, weeds, etc. If this is your map it is very cool and I hope you do more sir!

Ok, I am no expert but I think I have some constrcutive critiscm…Can you change the c0olors of the water to reds oranges and yellows? The greens are make it little difficult to decipher between land and water?

I’m afraid on the river stuff the colors are some thing I have no control over but I can change the tint. In a way with the greens, its kind of transition from water to muck.

I do use a color scheme like what your saying for the maps I’ve done up here. Yeah Drewsdad, you must have one. That south end of East was work, to collect the data I rowed the boat thru all that shallows on that hump they put markers around. In the end I was really pleased I did when I saw the small trenchs running across it. They may be only a foot or two deep but thats where the big boys are. West Rush was more fun with all the structure in it.

I like it! I could pick out where I’ve been the only time I fished that end of the pool. It is some what hard to tell where land starts and stops in some places.

So Warren, you’ll be doing one of these for Pool 5 as well?

The map you made for East Rush is definetly a superior map. On a regular map you would think that the lake is almost featureless. On your map you can pinpoint a lot of subtle things a regular map just could not do

Dartman, I’ve done pools 4, 5, 7 and 8 this way so far. When I can find the right imagery of the Iowa side I can rig up 9, 10 and 13. The LaCrosse area is extremely interesting.

I should mention too the black lines are the shoreline and the wing dams, and rail road tracks

I got a PM asking about the maps so I might as well answer it here. I set the maps up to run under any map software, like Fugawi or Global Mapper, that will run the ECW file type. I know its a large investment for any us to go out and purchase a program like Fugawi, $100, and then have to buy a map. So I did some thinking and decided that to encourage any one interested, if you buy Fugawi from Bruce Samson ( http://www.hightechfishing.com/ ) I’ll toss in the maps for one pool from 4, 5, 7 or 8. Right now I’m redoing the pools 4, 5, 7 and 8 and have finished 7 and 8. Each pool will be covered with imagery in 2 meter resolution with the color depth charts and wing dams/revetments over laid, like the sample image. Also the imagery with 1.5 meter resolution and the wingdams/revetments so you can better see the river. The color charts were done by the USGS between the early 1990’s and 2001. So as with rivers and how they change, its horse shoes and hand gernades. These are only fishing maps.
I know there are people that are going to be fishing tournaments that cover the pools I haven’t listed. If needed I’ll rig them up with the imagery and wingdams too. Pools 3, 5a, and 6. On the pools south of 8 I’m shopping to buy imagery from the Feds before I can do any thing down there. Hopefully before early this spring or the first tournaments down there.
With Bruce Samsons Lowrance advanced classes, this will have the added value of letting you map areas for yourself and over lay the contour lines on top these maps in your map software, or add your own maps to your personal libaries I’m betting you will make.
If you already have a map sofware, I’ll be selling the pools for $20 a pool plus $5 shipping and handling per order.
I know there is a lot of stuff going to be going on Feb 18th, but keep in mind there will be Lowrance Classes at Minnetonka. If your using a Lowrance, this is a great class to learn the whole machine so be sure to sign up early.

I just did some thing interesting. I converted the corp ENC wingdam/channel data into Lowrance track files.

Prescott, Wis to Lansing, Ia – I stopped there because this over runs what I did on the imagery maps.

Some one just PM’d me and like a fool I erased it after I answered. If your still around, afterwards I did some thinking and looking at past maps I sell and I decided $20 is too much, except for pro’s. $10 per pool, $5 shipping and handling per order should be more in line. The pro’s can still pay $20 per pool
