Did you guys watch the video from the link? Looks like hes an LX5 owner. This guy is alright in my books. Scott would proud.
Guys;
The idea to have a single collection point for donations is a good one. I would be happy to be that person. This is one of those times were a little thoughful compassion on the part of our group can go a long way to helping out a person that suffered a senseless loss.
I ask that all donations be sent to:
Jon Fenner Fund
C/O James Holst
3954 Stevens Ave South
Minneapolis, MN 55409
I will keep an updated tally of donations to date, here on this thread. As of 9 PM Monday night, we start off with the $50 I pledged.
James are you going to be around Everts any time soon?
I would like to drop a check off tomorrow if that would work out!
Leave it with Dean and he’ll get it to me the next time I’m down. Thanks buddy!
The checks in the mail this morning, I hope he gets enough cash to replace his LX5, that is one slick machine, anyone want to buy a LX3 with a bonus transducer for your trolling motor?
Ch 5 just reported that he’ll be getting a new house this afternoon.
Didn’t say anything about his special wheelchair or rod ect.
From what I understand as of about midnight last night.
Yes Ice Castle is donating a new fishhouse.
The family plans to use cash donations to acquire the equipment Jon needs and/or lost in the fire.
I’m all for forwarding the donations to the family and letting them decide what else thay may do with it.
They beleive there will be money left over and plan to first bolster the reward fund to catch the perpetrators. They probably have other causes near and dear to their hearts too after the rehab Jon went through.
I’m keeping James Holst and Gary Wellman updated and they will coordinate delivering IDA’s donations.
Keep up the good work guys.
Thanks for leading this Gem-Eye!!!!
I had the wonderful opportunity to talk with Tom Fenner last night. Tom is Jon Fenner’s father.
As Gem-Eye has stated, Ice Castle is giving Jon a new house. However, Jon is going to need to fishing gear!!!
Jon sounds like a wonderful guy!!! He even deer hunts!!!!!!! Last year he used a 20ga for deer hunting!!!
Jon is paralized on the left side, if I remember correctly. So with that said, he has a very brilliant idea of reeling in fish! Since Jon can only use one hand, fishing can be bit of a challenge. He uses belt with the rod-butt holder, like deep sea fisherman use. He also has a strap around his neck. With the rod in the butt-holder and the strap that is around his neck also attached to the rod, he bends up to set the hook!!! (cool idea if you ask me) Then he reels in the fish with one hand.
Not only did Jon loose the fish house, but he also lost his fishing gear.
Maybe we can use the money raised to purchase some new flashers and underwater cameras????
Jon also has a difficult time tying jigs on. If a fish breaks off or if he breaks the line, then he just grabs another rod that is pre-rigged. So, with that said, Jon needs alot of fishing rods to keep him setup for a full day of fishing. So again, maybe a bunch of new fishing rods and new tackle is in order as well????
I hope we get enough donations to set Mr. Fenner up better than he was before.

With a new house on the way, and the combined donations coming from a couple different places.. and who knows what else goes their way privately..
I have no doubt he will be set for ice fishing in whatever way works best for him, and the reward money was boosted up also to try to help catch the people responsible for this happening.
The last I looked closely, I believe it was over $4000(combined effort) that had been donated as of sometime last night. This does not include the house, or what will go to them in private donations.
I am sure he can better what he had to suit his needs more properly.. maybe he will be able to look into more specialized equipment like electric reels so he can more easily fish with one arm… who knows, he should have some options and be sitting pretty good in the end.
I commend all of you that are supporting him. The efforts that have been put forth are far beyond anyone could have ever hoped for, and you have helped keep someones fishing dreams alive.. and have really shown there is a breed of people in this world that still care and are willing to give a helping hand at a dire time of need.
Thanks everyone for the support.
I spoke with MarCum, they have some things in the works already to provide this young man with an LX-5
My check is in the mail. This is great the way this kid is being helped out. Still too bad something like this had to happen in the first place.
That just rocks
The site in the back ground was cool. It brings faith back to man kind
How cool of people to understand what fishing means to Jon, and to make sure he is able to keep his hobby alive
A co-worker gave me $10 today to send in!
Thank you very Much Mike!
Stick it to’em
It said the fish house cost over $4000.00
I hope the ticket cost all of that!
Very good. Hope they can make the charges stick. Thanks for the news
