Fly in Fishing Trip costs

For many years now I have wanted to do a fly in trip to Canada to fish for big pike. I was watching a fishing show this weekend and it was about fly in pike fishing. I looked up the outfit and was absolutely stuned by the price for 5 days. $2995 per person if you have two people. They go on to say that the cabins and the food are not 5 star but the fishing is great. That price does not include tips or beer, tackle or the cost to get to the starting point of the trip.

Two years ago I flew down to Argentina for 10 days of hunting doves, ducks, geese and perdez. The food was absolutely top shelf EVERY meal. The hunting was like nothing you will ever find anywhere else. We were treated like kings the entire time down there. Total for 10 days was $3032 which included all tips, amo, and transportation.

Is this the going rate for a good fly in trip?

MDP- I sure hope not because I’m planning one for ’07 with a couple of my buddies!! We’ve been to some of the sport shows already this year and we’ve seen places for closer to $1,200-$1,500 for a week. Haven’t locked anything down yet but none of us could afford to pay $3,000 for a week of fishing.

A buddy of ours has been to Athabasca a couple of times and paid around $5,000 for the trip. He said that everything was first-class and the fishing was unbelievable. Multiple pike over 45 inches long for the week.

    Good luck.

Well, that means in my opinion, is that the food and cabins suck……Honestly, I would ask for references of people who have stayed there before.

That kind of money should put you up on Walaston lake or Reindeer lake, where they are daily guided trips with top notch lodging and food.

Typical Ontario fly-ins for 4 or 5 days generally run about $800, with you bring your own food and having “average” cabins………Cabins that are nice and comfortable, but not elegant……

I remember paying $300 Canadian for 4 day fly ins! Now, the same place is over $800! There are still some bargains out there. I agree with Gary, references are a must! Look at Atikwa Lake Lodge in Ontario out of Nester Falls. Still reasonable, and you can catch a bus ride from the cities a few times a year! How sweet is that?!

MDP, sounds high !!! The place I have gone, and have re-booked for June of this year, the cabins are primitive. Stove, heater, hot water, no tv, no radio, complete silence, (isn’t that we go?) Has satellite phone. You buy your groceries and beverages, bring your own rods, tackle, and I can tell you, you don’t need any bait. The walleyes hit EVERYTHING, and the pike, hit 5 of diamonds daredevils, and pretty much anything else. Most pike were 36 to 39.9999 inches. We did boat 4 over 40″ in 5 days. Click link below to see rates. Oh, we did drive to Lynn Lake, and caught the float plane there. Good luck.

Yep, we go (or used to go) to Trophy Fish outpost out of Armstong. Armstrong is located 160 miles north of Thunderbay.

Each year, one to 5 pike over 40 would be boated, but during the 1st week in July, a 40″ pike up there would go about 16lbs.

That trip was $700 tax included for 4 days, if memory serves me right……..

They had brand new cabins with gas operated fridge, oven, and chest freezer, along with gas lights. Hot water showers and running water, but an outhouse for your “relieving duties”. Had a wood stove too.

    14′ lunds with 9.9 motors.

Nice set up and very clean. BIG lakes with tons of fish.

A modified spinnerbait prevails every year as the top lure for catching the pike up there……..

The biggest fish always came on dead bait………

I also went to Atikwa 2 years ago for two seperate trips. They will pick you up on a bus, fly you in, and give you a cabin and food for 4 days for $510 (I think). It was nice to ride a bus and not drive (pay for gas), show up in the morning (Friday) and be fishing by 10am. Decent 16 ft boats with 20 horse 4 stroke Hondas. PM me and I will get the info for you.
