I am in the beginning part of buying a boat. I would like to get a bass boat or something similar. I only have a Ford Explorer to pull with and the garage will only fit a 18′ boat, probably. Would you recommend fiberglass or Aluminum? What are the pros and cons for each? Tritons and Rangers are probably top of the line, but a little out of my price range.

    Welcome to IDA Mike!!!

Is your Ford Explorer a 4 or a 6 banger?

Hey LMI, my philosopy has always been to buy what you want(reasonable within your parameters) even if you have a bit of a financial stretch, my justification has always revolved around usage. If you are gonna’ use it, it has a greater value IMHO!

First welcome aboard Ike! Under the boat classified look for a Skeeter posted by bassman. Great riding 17′ boat that would be a super start for you, Excellent trolling motor, electronics, all you need to do is get in it and fish and you don’t need a second mortgage to buy it!

    It’s 6. 1995 with 114,000 miles.

Thanks guys. I should probably get something with a dual console for my wife. Are G3 boats worth looking at?

Check out http://www.classicbass.com. They’ve got a lot of great boats on their classifieds page that would be affordable. Also know of a 20′ Hydrosport w/ a 200 (not sure of maker) for under $7K. PM if you’re interested. It’s from around 1990, but it’s gotten all new carpets, fiberglass repairs so it looks brand new, new trolling motor & electronics, too.
