Just got back from an unsuccessful stroll thru the woods looking for deer antlers….picked one deer tick off myself and two off of Hanna the Lab.Several days ago pulled one off of Hanna which was already filling with blood.
Next time you take your dog to the vet , lyme vaccine might not be a bad idea. It’s two shots given about a week apart.
Regarding sheds…found a little 4-inch spike at Goose Island county park south of laCrosse a couple days ago. If the little bucks have lost ’em you know many of the bigger bucks are out there without headgear!

    Huh

Say it isn’t so, seems early! The ticks, that is.

Little early for sheds too. I still have my trail cams out and every buck I have seen still has its antlers. BTW..I have over 1800 pictures in the last 3 weeks over the food plot.

Our vet here in Hudson tells me that anytime there is significant bare ground, the ticks are out. Since moving to Hudson in July 03, both my dogs (labs) have either had or been exposed to Lymes. If you live in Western WI, get your dog vaccinated. There is no off season here for ticks.

My hound contracted lymes this fall, scary deal.Came home from work one day and he couldn’t stand up. The vet was able to get him on medication and take care of it.
The one year I forget to get him vaccinated it happens.
It won’t happen again, not having your dog for two weeks of the hunting season or worse is no fun.

You guys may not believe me but the first of January I saw 3 bucks that had already dropped both sides and one with only one side. Unfortunately, I shot what I thought was a mature doe on the 3rd that ended up to be a buck that had already dropped. (no not a nub buck). This is the earliest I have ever encountered. I chalked it up to malnutrition, seeing how I was in the middle of county land with no real food source available.

Last weekend I hunted all three days of antlerless hunt in Illinois. Either sex was open in Winnebago county. Saw 42 roundheads…one of which was twice as big as other 16 in herd…probably a buck. Had a basket rack with both horns come under me, and a shooter 8 missing one horn at about 60 yds so I let him walk.

Is there any vaccine for humans?
    Thanks, Bill
