My $.02 would be to go with the four stroke. Simple,no mess, whisper quiet, uses s___ for gas. Only way to go for me.

Ive got a 2002 Merc 25 2 stroke. Bought it new. It’s been a good motor, no complaints, no problems. My only advise would be to get the electric start.

I ditto what John said – mine is an 03 but haven’t looked back – other than I have two props now and am constantly sending one back in for repairs – gotta quit hitting stuff – but to get where the fish are,,, you get the point. Love the shift on the handle for current slipping when jigging eyes. Chuckles

I chewed up a couple props too. Put on the Cabela’s S/S prop and am happy with that too. I have hit rock hard at nearly WOT and did not damage the prop shaft.*** Filed out a few dings and it is ready to go.

*** Everyone kept telling me not to put on a S/S prop because if I hit a rock I would bend the prop shat. Just not true in my experience. Not to say it won’t happen in the future.

Nothing like the smell of 2 stroke in the morning while heading to your first honey hole…..

    gillman,

I have a 02 25hp 2 stroke Merc and it runs a like a top. I had a faulty thermostat that took 3 minutes to replace and its been running strong for a couple years now. I use this motor for my winter boat in some harsh conditions and it starts easily and runs smooth in all conditions for me. I will give the electric start as well!
