Sirius Satellite Radio

Anybody have any experience with satellite radio? More specifically, installing the magnetic antenna on the roof of a pickup. Directions are very vague and I’m wondering how/where to go through the back window with the cord to get the antenna on the rear part of the roof? Looks easy to do for a car. My truck has a split/sliding window in the back.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I don’t know anything about Sirius but I have used Mag mount antennas for Ham Radio. Make sure the bottom of the thing is clean, otherwise it will scratch the heck out of the paint on your roof. It’s a strong magnet so it likes to grab nasty metal particles and then grind them into your roof.

Thanks for the advice, Rootski. I have been thinking about what I could use between the antenna and the surface of the roof. Something to protect the paint without taking away the strength of the magnet. Has to be durable enough to stand up to the weather as well, obviously.

not sure what vehicle you have, but mine is a 2004 f150 crew, I removed 3d brake lite, removed the back of the headliner, and removed the pillar post, I centerd the anntenna, ran the lead, I placed the tuner in the glove box.
    hope this helps.

I have one on my f-350. ran the wire along the drivers door under the weather stripping and put the antenna right off the door on the roof.

Thanks, guys. I drive a 2001 Tundra. All of your suggestions are good ones. This will be a good project to tinker with over the weekend.

Thanks again for taking the time to respond.

Really? I had planned to go to the place where it was purchased, where I know they do installs on these, and ask how they do it. Might be worth it to let them install it then.

    Thanks.

I just installed mine today after one of the guys i work with did his. He told me he used velcro and put it down by the windshield on the dash, you can run the wires very easily like this and keep them hidden and reception is just as good. You can hardly notice it in the corner of the dash and windshield. He has had his like this for a while and mine works great. Good luck!

Can you get Rush Limbaugh’s show on Sirius radio?
For some reason I have the impression that Sirius is for Howard Stern fans ($500mil for 5years) and that XM radio caters more to Rush Limbaugh fans. I’m not trying to make any one mad here, just trying to understand the differences between Sirius and XM. So far I can’t really justify making monthly payments to listen to a radio at this point in time of my life. I’m fundamentaly opposed to making monthly payments towards just about anything. But I can see if you were constantly going in/out of station coverage areas it is annoying.
