19 Degree Ice Ducer or 9 Degree?

I need a new ice ducer for my FL-18. Has anyone used the 19 degree ducer? If so, what is your preference? I’ll be making the stop tonight and would like to take advantage of the wider beam if it means more visibility. Otherwise, I’ll just go back to the old 9 degree. Feedback is appreciated.

What type of fishing do you do most? Shallow panfish? Deep Crappies, walleye?

9 degree transducers are pretty useless in shallow water, anything less than 20′ and your not getting much of a window.

If you fish deep most of the time, the 9 is the way to go, if you fish a little bit of everywhere, I will recommend the 19.

I guess it depends on how specific you want to be. A 20 is a good all around but when fishing deep (20 or more) especially with others you’re picking up echos you don’t need and maybe encompassing unnecessary interference. If you have the cash get the dual beam which prepares you for all scenarios. “All scenarios” is where the LX 5 now shines. Theres no need to speak of dual, 19, or 9, Because with the Lx 5 you’re ready for whatever depth or situation the fish throw at you by the push of a button. Dual beam is the way to go

What they said. Ideally you would have both. If you can only have one, get the 19 degree as they work better in shallow water. It will pick up more interfernce in deep water but will work best overall.

Like Matt said, the LX-5 comes with both and I use both quite often. It is is nice to be able to tune out others baits by changing to that narrow beam in deep water.

I would really like to get the LX5, but can not justify it right now. Most of the time I am fishing in water less than 20 ft. The exception being the Crappie hole that is 30 ft. Thanks for the feedback. It is very helpful and may push me into the 19 degree.

You have an option of a 9 or 19 degree dual beam transducer as well for your vexilar. It is $89.99. You don’t need to buy a new unit..just a new dual beam transducer. It will work on either the fl-8 or the fl-18. The 9, 12, or 19 degree transducers by themselves are $59.99.
