I am beginnig to research converting my two stroke Mercury to four stroke Johnson. Do I have to change the wiring harness in the boat? If so this is a big job and I might be better off trading in my boat. Any help would be appreciated.

I assume you have a console steerting boat? If so, when you change engine manufacturers, you have to change the throttle control box in addition to changing the motor itself; a merc throttle box will likely not be compatible with a johnson 4-stroke. The general wiring harness that powers the lights, livewell, etc shouldn’t need to be changed.

I enjoy tinkering and maintaining my boat as much as the next guy (incidentally….I have a Johnson 115 4 stroke on mine…nice motor!). If I was in your shoes, I’d turn my rig over to a dealer and let them handle the change.
