    hey guys im just wondering how you guys on here fillet the panfish that you catch. i have a way that works ok but im looking for different techniques and ways to do it. any help would be appriciated, most of the time i just let them go but tonight i kept some so thats what got me thinking. thanks!

    the best way that i have found is with a electic filet knife i don’t know what i did before i had one. takes about the third of the time to filet them out.

    I have two ways. Casey showed me a really good way to get a ton of meat but it is hard to explain. I will show you sometime…

    watch the kinfes…. they can be sharp i was cleanin 7 fish this morrin and cut my tumb it didnt stop bleeding for awhile and cleanin with a band-aid and med tape is pretty hard to grab the fillet.

    Fish27, being that you are so young I would keep using a regular fillet knife you will become real good after some more practice on those Sunnies you’ve been Slaying…

    i actually enjoy cleaning my fish. its really easy. u start behind the gills and cut about half way in go up on top of the fish and poke yur knife in until u feel the rib cage. slowly follow it down until u dont feel it anymore and stcik the knife all the way through the fish and take it down to the tail. then u peel the meet off the skin. hold it down with your index finger and move your knife back and forth under the meat. b careful not to go through the skin. that should work for u. it takes a while to get used to it. im not a big fan of electric knives tho. get yur self a nice fillet knife and u should be good! good luck hope it works out for yea

    Scale, clean, don’t skin and fry in bacon grease. After filleting sunfish for many years I have gone back to the old fashioned method. The only fillets I do now are for Sunfish soup.
