That is a good shot! The favorite wife saw her first Pilated woodpeck here a few weeks ago. She said..she’s never seen one (woodpecker) that big before. But I reminded her that Woodie Woodpecker was a Pilated.

They must be doing well, as I’ve seen more (four or five) in the last five years than ever before.

One that I see less of is the Red Headed wood pecker…wonder why?

I don’t know about out there but woodpeckers are a victim of west nile virus here. Lot less of them. I must be real blind but the pix of a wood pecker on post I see what is hiding from what? This ain’t related to the arizona cartalk story is it?

The piliated is not actually on the post. It is actually hanging on a suit feeder about 4 feet behind the downy woodpecker. Kinda gives you a little idea how big that sucker is. It was only 20ft from our padio door.
