Messin up on e-bay

Ok, I think I stepped in it. I made a “commited” bid on an item in e-bay and now have found a better deal elsewhere on a similar item. How does one bow out gracefully? Do you just let it slide and take the bad rap from the other person?

Question: is the bidding closed? if it’s still open…let it go as someone will be bidding the last mininute…if it’s closed, you bought it!

you can retract your bid or let it go- chances are if there are a couple days left someone might go over you. If you are going to retract, now would be the best time so the seller doesnt get stuck with it after the auction.

If you get outbid, don’t worry about.

If you win the item and don’t pay, then you’ll be labeled a “deadbeat bidder” for going back on your legal binding bid. People will throw stones at you.

I bid on the wrong item once and was worried I would need to buy it or suffer bad feedback. I sent an email to the seller and explained the situation and he agreed to not hold me to the bid. Worth a shot.

I had the same thing happen to me before, and i ended up winning the item. I didn’t want bad feedback so i just paid for the item and turned around and resold it on ebay. It sold for more than i paid for it, so i ended up makin a few bucks.

I sell quite a bit on Ebay and have a 100% satisfaction gaurantee on all my items. In the case of someone making a bidding mistake or having the wife threaten murder for spending over $300 on used waders I am most always flexible and willing to work with my customers.

The best thing to do is be upfront and communicate with the seller. I personally would prefer to eat a few items and have happy customers than PO customers. Good sellers will do whatever they can to make it a win win situation for both parties. If you are treated fairly be sure to spread the word about that seller.

Many times I have items that I would be happy not to sell or would be ecstatic if every winning bidder backed out on me. This is the case with very popular items that are in limited supply. Some of these items will bring well over a 1000 people to view my items. So contact the seller and explain the situation and see what the options are.

That being said the seller incurs a fair amount of fees for the listing and the final value fees. If you win and do not pay the seller is still charged. The only way to recoup the fees is to file a non paying bidder against you. This is not a good mark to have if intend to do much on ebay and could result in negative feedback. Some sellers will block bidders with negative marks against them.

You also need to realize that the reason you do not want this now is because you found one cheaper. This is really not a good reason to cancel a bid as no matter what you buy or bid on you can always find it cheaper somewhere. The seller assumes certain obligations when they list an item for sale. The buyer also assumes certain obligations when they bid.

Remember most mistakes on Ebay are caused by not reading the listing thoroughly before bidding. Read and ask questions if neccesary.

Good luck and feel free to PM me if you need any help with this.

Fish, I assume you are bidding on the zercom. Unless you put a bid in that is substantially higher than what its at now, you will definately be outbid. As of today there are still 3 days left and the really serious bidders dont come out of the woodwork until the last few minutes of auctions. If your bid is a lot higher, pm me and I can tell you how to retract your highest bid. Looks like a good deal on that unit though! Heck, I may even buy it…lol!

I removed my original response after I checked this out.

If you end up winning this, you should bite the bullet and pay for it. That said, I don’t you’ll win anyway.
