WOW, I didn’t know they had super bowls back in the 20’s and 30’s. Here I thought we are celebrating super bowl 40 this year. I’ll have to call the commissioner and straighten him out. It’s going to cost a bunch of money to change all the marketing material….

NEWSFLASH: The Minnesota Vikings just found out that they will need to actually WIN a playoff game to advance in the playoffs, if they do in fact make it this year. After hearing the news, Vikings owner and chairman Zygi Wolf said that this was completely unexpected and outrageous then had no further comment.

Sources say that following the next Vikings home game, the Wilf’s have agreed on handing out Snickers bars to all Viking faithful.

“This should keep them happy for a few years.” Zygi told the press with a chocolate covered grin on his face.

Of course, the Vikes won more playoff games last year then the Pack did. If memory serves me right… Since we’re living in the past anyway.

Living in the Past? They did, indeed, have some great teams but that was THEN, this is Now!

You are not suggesting that the Vikes have a great team now are you? I am also sure that many would agree that while the Packers are not top notch this year, they have been well above average and the Vikes for most of the past decade. Even with the Vikes beating the Packers twice this year, they are still an aweful team. The only chance this division has, I am sad to say, is the lowly Bears. I say lowyly due to their lack of a solid offense. Althouth they are getting better, they are at least a year, maybe two away in that area. Their defense will only be able to do so much.

Serious question for you Packer fans. How confident are you in the abilities of Mike Sherman and the GM(Ted Thompson?)to draft wisely and tweak the lineup through free-agency. As a Bear fan I watch what each team does in the off-season and what the Pack did last year didn’t seem to make much sense? I’m sure you guys have a much better feel that I would though.

If you do get a top 5 draft pick what would you want them to do with it?

Same question for the Vikes fans. Will Tice lose his job? Will Daunte be the starter on opening day next year?

There’s nothing like ‘Packer Week’!!! Go Bears!!!

Thompson will make a move this year and release Sherman of his head coaching job if he knew what was best for the team. In fact, if they were smart they would promote Jim Bates to the head coaching position next year. IMO

I knew I should have stayed out of this. Dad has an old saying, “Don’t argue with a Packer fans or idiots, they take you down to their level and beat you with experience”.

Just kidding boys!! I’m rooting for the pack this week!

The Chicago newspapers are saying that Favre has inferred that he would rather not come back next year if Sherman was released. He’d rather not learn a new system and re-build the roster to accomodate that. The speculation is that the Pack want a change at the head-coaching position and, even if it pushes Favre toward the door, they might go ahead and do it anyways.

Also, heard an interesting stat on the radio last night. Last year the Pack was the oldest, on average, team in the division. The Bears were the youngest. This year the Bears and Packers are tied for youngest roster in the division. This must be because of all the replacements that the Pack has had to sign and play due to injury though, right? Or did they plan to play a good # of rookies?

Don’t we as parents, teach our children, not to live in the past

In 1929 there were 12 teams playing in the NFL including the Dayton Triangles

In 1930 there were only 11 teams in the NFL and the Pack lost to 3 of them

In 1931 the NFL lost another team so now there were only 10 teams and the packers lost to two of them too

Ok, so now in 1936 there are only 9 teams in the NFL and to help the packers out the NFL split into two , the East and West Conference, so the Pack would only have to play certain teams in there area and have a better record, with only one loss…poor fellas

And it goes on and On…

here is the website I got the info from…it is interesting

You failed to mention that the Minneapolis team was tossed out of the league in 1930 because they sucked so bad! 1-7-1? Sounds like the early Vikings.

Why is everyone arguing about the Packers?

    An 2-8 record spells L-O-O-S-E-R-S!!

    End of story.

Nobody gave a crap about history in school so why should we give a crap about it now?

Oh yeah, that is the last grasp dying argument of every Packer fan.

How many Packer fans on this board were even born when the Packers won their first Super Bowl?

No, hardly. What it does do is show the very reason NFL fans all over the league dislike Packer fans. Nobody cares what your team did back in the days of black and white T.V., less alone what they did 70 years ago.

Why do you never hear Packer fans gloat about the glory days with Indy Infante as coach, or Bart Starr, or Forrest Gregg, or Ray Rhodes, or…. Lets hear you talk big about the glory days with Lynn (lame) Dickey playing QB, or Don “Magic” Majkowski, just to name a few. How about all those glory years from 1970-1993? We haven’t heard you guys talking about those days that were not nearly as long ago as all those other great glory days you want to rub everyones noses in.

And as long as I’m setting the record straight, did you know that the Packers totally dominated the Vikings the first 7 years the Vikings were in the league, something like 13-1, but today not only do the Vikings lead the all time series with the Packers, but they also have a lifetime winning record againt the Packers in Lambeau, as well as when they also played in Milwaulkee.

Feel free to keep it coming, because you will not win!!!

I was alive too. Dam, we’re getting old, eh?

As for the being around for the Vikings winning one, well, I always hope to see the day. If they do, when I die, I’ll die happy.

So why do you insist on instigating things with things like ?

    ?

I guess i’m failing to even understand your arguments? Name one team in any sport that brags about their darker years?

My Dad can beat up your Dad, blah blah…you keep biotching about the pack fans doing it, but you do the same thing…. Ribbing and telling the other fan how great your team is compared to theirs is what makes great rivalries. Like I said before, what fun would the border battle be w/o conversations like this amongst friends?

BTW—i’m laughing while typing this up

    Slop,

I’m not trying to instigate anything. I’m just sick of Packer fans selectively choosing certain parts of history and trying to rub everybodies noses in it. People just do not care what the Packers teams of the 1930’s did, so why keep bringing it up? In respect to the modern era of the NFL, the Pack has been a good team, but please don’t pull out the history books and try to tell the world that we should all bow our heads and pay homage to them because there is alot more to history than those fans are willing to talk about.

If people want to talk about what has happened in the last 20 years, fine. That would probably have some bearing on the events of today, but it’s ridiculus to think that what the Packers teams did under Curly Lambeau back in 1929 has any bearing on todays game, is totally dillusional.

How many people were born when the Vikes went to 4 superbowls and choked? Why don’t you brag about those years JLD? I was alive then. Thats when I was too young to understand divisions and such, but I loved football. I was a Viking AND Packer fan.
Then I grew up, realized you can’t root for two teams in the same division, and the Vikes made my choice easy by moving indoors!
