I have a portable deer blind I thought would work great as a fish shack and I was wondering if you need to license it like a permanent ice shack or are the licenses just for permenant ones when you leave it overnight.

    Thanks

Clint I do not know the answer to your question but I am curious about your portable deer blind, is it home made or did you buy it? Any pics?

Both permanent AND portable shelters need to have the license unless the law would change for some reason. Have a ”great” season ice fishing and look forward to hearing how you do on your outtings. We ALL learn from each others sharing/posting. Even on slower days of fishing we learn from each other as learning what may not have worked can be as important as learning what did work. It all helps us to try different tactics/techniques/lures to find the one they want today. So everyones posting is very important for everyone to learn.
    Thanks, Bill

Steve it is cabelas lightning set blind I don’t have a pic but it is great it sets up in seconds just like an umbrella.
I just bought it yesterday at cabelas in owatanna they are 149.00 but they have a lot in the bargain cave for 99.00 plus 25% off that but ask to set them up to see if they a damaged or not a lot are just returned because they got the wrong camo color. I also have an ameristep doghouse it is nice when set up but it a real pain folding back up.

Clint, get yourself a portable heater too. I also have problems with the cold but a heater inside a portable ice fishing house sure is sweet. [warm too]
    Thanks, Bill

ps. Knowing Steve, I’ll ask this question: Steve, are you back with your deer blind yet? lol. [Steve is a guy who loves to hunt even more than he does fish.]

I think this talking about ice fishing must be getting to me as I LOVE open water fishing but I’m getting pumped for ice fishing. Is there a doctor in the house? Maybe reality is setting in as with the 4-8” of snow they said we were to gewt at the beginning of the week [we didn’t get it] I cleaned up my Lund and took everything out of it and put it in storage at my youngest son Nates place. Still have the jon boat in the driveway for emergencies though. lol. But it does make ice fishing seem more like a coming soon realty though. Then I stopped out to HOF yesterday and talked ice fishing with Mike and RHW and they are always pumped about ice fishing [even in the summer they would ice fish if they could find ice somewhere] so its getting me pumped. Time to get out the ice fishing stuff and get it ready as December will be here before you know it. Wheres the ice?
    Thanks, Bill

Thanks for the info Clint which one do you prefer for deer hunting?
Cabela’s Lightning Set Hunting Blind Looks allot like the Dog House. I have the dog house and it does take some time to get use to folding it back up but once you get the hang of it its pretty easy. Does the Cabela’s blind use stakes to hold it to the ground like the dog house and if so how would that work on the ice? How would you keep it from blowing away?

PS. You can not use a portable heater in the dog house and I would think the Cabela’s brand would be the same way just like you would not use one in a small tent as most manufactures warn you not to use one as most of them are flammable.

yes it is very similar to the doghouse when set up the only difference is the lightning set doesn’t have a floor but I kind of like that because the floor would get real muddy so you had to clean it. What I like better is it takes litterally 30 second to set up and is real easy to pack it is staked like the doghouse, but I seen a post about stake kits for the ice that screw into the ice I think made by clam. I have used a heater with no problems I just make sure the windows are open and it is away from the edge.

That is strange my Ameristep Doghouse Blind does not have a floor I got it early this year at Cabela’s on sale, maybe it is a newer or older model than yours. I can not speak for the cabelas lightning blind but again for safety reasons as it is stated on an orange label inside the Ameristep Doghouse Blind not to use portable heaters inside the blind. I would hate to see an accident on the ice this year from something like this.
