I’m not saying that we are a great team, just reminding people that that is a very commonly used phrase when teams do what the Vikings did on Sunday. Its kind of funny how people are easily willing to blame poor special teams play for a team loosing a game, but hardly anybody will recognize the special teams for winning a game. Instead they would rather call it luck, or stealing a victory. Hey, catching a TD pass as time runs out is also called luck, as is a DB intersepting a pass to kill a drive at the end of the game “stealing” a victory.
As Wade eluded to in his post in the college football thread, the “Axe” stayed in Wisconsin this year, why?…. special teams!
The Vikings went into Giants stadium, and beat one of the best teams in the league today. Their defense controlled the second highest ranked offense, and the offense while not very good for most the game, DID manage enough of a drive for the team to win the game as time ran out. It wasn’t pretty, but all phases of our team contributed to that victory, and that might just be what we need to turn this season around. Like I said earlier, we could end the season 11-5!
Jack, Pass me the pipe dude!!! I’m not nearly as optimistic as you. The bears schedule is tough for the remainder of the year, but I only see them losing a couple of those games. A win this week would be a huge confidence boost for the queens, but I’m not confident they can beat Favre at home. We have two games to make up, don’t see it happening. Especially if we lose to St Louis, Pit and Baltimore. Three teams I don’t see the vikings beating.
However, I’m all for Steve O’s theory, over-serve me till I fall off the chair!!
I not am very optimistic on the Vikes right now, but St Louis is brutal. If Pitt still doesnt have a QB, that game at home is a toss up. Baltimore stinks. At GB might be the toughest of all those on Monday night. I am sure the refs will try to screw us again like they did last year (rembember 2 different times w/ Vikes standing on the 50 wit a fumbled ball only to have it awarded to the Pack? Or 2 absolutely horrible pass interference penalties?).
As bad as the Vikes are, I think they are still the team to beat. Chicago has beaten: Detroit, Cleveland, MN, Baltimore, Detroit, NO and SF. That is a combined record of 15-30. Throw out MN and Det and it is 7-20.
The Bears have a tough go of things. If they go .500 until the last game of the year, I see that game in MN being for the division.
In the whole scheme of things, does it really matter? Any way you slice it , the whole division is terrible . Unfortunately, the Bears are the best in the division. That hurts to say growing up in Madison and being a lifelong fan of the Pack. But like I said it really doesn’t matter much because whatever team wins, will more than likely lose in the first wildcard game, unless something changes.
Bassman
Kooty,
Its not the Bears schedule so much as it is the Vikings schedule. Yes, the Bears have a very tough schedule….Carolina, T.B., G.B.x2, Pitt., Atl., and Minnesota, with 4 of those games on the road. The Vikings on the other hand after Monday in G.B., finish the season with Cle.(3-6), Det.(4-5),Stl.(4-5),Pitt.(7-2), Balt.(2-7), and Chi.(6-3). With 4 games at home and only Det. and Balt. on the road. There is a very good chance that this team could make the playoffs!
It’ll be interesting to see how many fair weather fans will jump back on the bandwagon if the Vikes can make a run at making the playoffs this year!
Jack, Nothing would excite me more than to see Brad Johnson take over this team and take them to the playoffs. He is the only reason the offense will jell and become a team. Did you see the safety whack him last week. Got up, ran the next play, no panick, no deer in the headlights look.
Dave,
I can understand your point of view, however, St. Louis seems to own this team. Unexplainable, but they do. They also just got back there #1 talent. Maybe I’ve been a vikes fan too long and just can’t shake the pessimistic view I’ve got…
At any rate, a win in GB this week will put one more nail in the Brett Favre retirement project.
I couldnt agree more Bassman. The entire division sucks.
A few good things are the Pack hasnt gave up and the fans arent the refs took another win away
I get so tired of seeing that.

2-7 now they can still make the playoffs
I’m not registering for playoff tickets. I think watching them on the TV set will have to do for me. But I can’t complain, Packer tickets are cheaper than Badger tickets.
I am not sure there is a “Best Team” in the NFC. The Packer-Atlanta and Minnesota-Giant games proved there is no outstanding team in the NFC.
Unfortunately, the Packer record is so bad it would take a miracle to win the division. Nonetheless, they will win on Monday night in decisive fashion.
