Would it be possible to start a Muskie forum on this site. Maybe there is a Muskie forum on this site but I have not found it. I understand we can’t make demands and get immediate results but, I think it would be a informative and fun forum. What do the rest of you guys think, or better yet who should I direct this question to?

How About A Muskie Forum????

You can post all your muskie questions at the Mille Lacs muskie forum.
In my discussions with James about this, that was his game plan. Just like the walleye/bass/catfish/panfish forums in the Mississippi River forum.
November 10, 2005 at 2:44 pm #395696Ya, but not everyone fishes Mille Lacs. I fish Pewaukee, others fish the Chippewa and so forth. So, I too would like to see a Musky forum
November 10, 2005 at 2:48 pm #395700Understood, but you can post your fish and talk muskie there!!!!!!!
November 10, 2005 at 3:02 pm #395706Even though I spend the majority of my fishing time targeting muskies, I’d prefer to not have a muskie forum here. There are a ton of muskie boards on other sites, and not one of them is worth participating on (my opinion) and I don’t think an IDA muskie board could be any different. I like the current format.

November 10, 2005 at 3:04 pm #395710i think posting under the body of water you are fishing would suffice….
that is the basis of how this web is layed out. By location, not by species….w/the exception of the Miss. river, and that’s b/c it spans such a large area.

Ya, I know, thats what I have been doing. Just giving my vote is all.November 10, 2005 at 3:34 pm #395727Thanks John23!!!!!!
That was the response I was looking for!!!!!
November 10, 2005 at 3:41 pm #395733I agree with Slop , That is the reason for all the different lakes and the MN general forum. If you want to talk about Muskie, start chatter under a certain lake. This also helps those forums stay active. If we start having a forum for each and every topic, it takes away from other forums. I believe this is the intent of the WebMaster
PS Berdahl share your favorite way to fillet amd smoke those tasty tooothies. Inquiring minds want to know

Boy you tight lipped muskie guys sure are smooth about keeping secrets secret! ;
I would love to see a muskie board too, but you’re probably right, the best advice you’re gonna get from most muskie guys is maybe some lure advice..not much as far as location…so a muskie board would be useless. Continue to use the Mille Lacs board…..or any other lake you catch/fish muskies in I guess.
PS…..Gary, I still expect muskie tips from you though!!!

You know…that’s what I thought too…but I posted some ski pictures from a guy that I was trying to get registered and got reamed because I deleted the backgrounds…
So I guess muskie spots aren’t all that secret…
November 10, 2005 at 4:14 pm #395749At least Briank and the cat guys tell us what type of tree to fish by! (something about a certain cottonwood?)
November 10, 2005 at 4:15 pm #395750Well
If you want to find muskies on Tonka………..Go to ANYWHERE there are large mouth bass…….They inhabit the same structure/weeds. Look for structure that leads to deep water, or cabbage beds that are mixed in with the milfoil. You’ll get bit!!!!
Same applies for WBL, Forest, Waconia, etc, etc, etc.
By the way, my favorite muskie lure is a $2.50 modified spinnerbait!!!!!
Unfortunately, the biggest problem I observe on “muskie boards” is that everyone is an 8 hour expert (meaning after 8 hours on the water, they know it all).
It is all just too cocky for me.

And there’s a difference here

Naw, no one here cares about muskies. Oh wait a minute, unlike sites devoted to muskies, guys here are good hooks first… Musky Junkies second. I like our little Ski cult we have, secret handshake and all.
November 10, 2005 at 7:19 pm #395816If no forum is started on this sight, muskyhunter.com is a sight very similar to IDA, and it covers all of the musky waters in the midwest. Worth checking out if you are into muskies.
November 10, 2005 at 7:22 pm #395820Yep, there is about a dozen of them.
Some are ok, some are kinda “goofy”, some are kinda conceded…….
Like Dan said, this is the home of good hooks for any and all species!!!
Trust me, if you are challenged on a lake on finding muskies, or are challenged by technique, ask away…….I’m about 99% confident that you will get the info you need right here!!!!!!

Muskyhunter.com is a perfect example of why IDA doesn’t need a muskie forum. Other examples include muskiefirst.com, muskiecentral.com, muskiefix.com, muskynut.com, etc., etc., etc.
IDA doesn’t have a “walleye” forum, either, by the way. I like the current format.
pyakePosts: 167November 12, 2005 at 1:21 am #396178I would benefit and also participate in a musky forum. If enough people were to participate, a species specific forum would add a lot to this site. This site appeals to a number of anglers from a large geographic area. It would be a good way to pull a lot of non-lake specific info together in one place. For example, latest and greatest lures, lure tuning, equipment, techniques… stuff that can apply on any body of water. Right now the general discussion forum is the best place for this kind of info but it can turn over relatively quickly due to high number of posts.

Thanks for the info on Muskifirst.com , I had never been there before. Looks like a lot of good stuff on this site. Watch out for the Tuffy Esox Magnum add that loads in the upper right hand corner, it will drive you nuts if you want to get into the forum!!! You have to reload the website until the Ranger add is in the same spot.
I still think that this site would have nothing to loose and all to gain for a species specific forum.
November 14, 2005 at 7:24 pm #396538Pete,
There are a lot of things about that site (and the other muskie sites I mentioned) that drive me nuts.
