check out the astrostart line, it really has some great distance for starting. great to have a warm vehicle by the time you land the boat and walk up from the landing to get it. and with the internet, they are fairly easiy to install yourself.

    good luck

Thanks guys.. I checked with Ziebart. They install Crime Stopper for $249. I have a factory alarm and it needs some special relay to override it and the Crime Stopper has it. Big, have you heard of any problems with electrical damage to the car? Do you still install them on the side?

Many horror stories relating too remote starters……I personaly would be very careful about who I would let install these units. For the most part the basic install you receive is Total HACK work and is unexceptable and can and does lead to problems.
If towing a F-350 in from 9 mile seems like a pain multiply that by 100, been there done that.
Now that mine is installed correctly along with the abilty to over ride the remote starter system if and when the system crashes I will be able to Start my truck and drive home.

That being said I love hopping into a warm truck in the winter.

I have a Compustar car start/ alarm on my truck, best range on the market since I last looked, I can start my truck on a good day almost a mile away, say if I were out on the lake fishing, in the city, around a bunch of houses sometimes the range varies. My remotesart/alarm has been thus far perfect for a little better than 3 years. Mach 1 seels them now, I cannot not reccomend the shop who did the install on my truck. Now from what i’ve heard the viper alarms probably have a better alarm than the compustar, but the range wasn’t even close when I bouight mine, they claim the range is 1 1/4 mile I’ve yet to actually test it much, but I did start my truck when I was on prior lake from 4500 feet away according to my gps. In case you wondered I have the 2wss/as model compustar. I’ve heard good things about the viper systems, but I think I’d most likely buy another compustar if I were to put on in my car too. I’m sure both the viper and compustar will both work with the “security system” on your truck.

I bought the “cheapo” kit from Walmart. Was going to install it myself, via watching the home dvd that came with it. I was going to put it on my wife’s Mitsubishi.

After watching the video, I realized that I better get my mechanic buddy, who is a genius on cars. I was hesitant on doing it, because you have to have the right connectors to “tap” into the electrical ignition system to prevent melt downs.

When I called him, he told me he wouldn’t do it. No way, would he do it. There wasn’t enough beer or money, where he would install it for me………He said he couldn’t do it to a friend.

He has seen WAY TOOOOOOOOO many problems with all of these. For starts, he said the starter will be smoked in 1 to 2 years. He also made the comment that other problems may occur which would damage the motor, let alone eletrical nightmares, which will surface AFTER the installation is all said and done, and everything is working fine.

    don’t do it……….
