I am going to take a look at, and quite possibly buy a boat next week. Problem is I live in Rochester, MN and the boat is in Green Bay. So I need to find a good lake to test drive and play with the boat somewhere in the middle. The only thing I can think of is the Wisconsin River. But I don’t know the water and neither does the gentleman selling the boat. Any of you cheese heads have some information for me. Any help would be great. If the fish are biting it might be a long test drive.

Lake Wissota is in the middle, and easy to get to from both Green Bay and from Rochester. From green bay, take 29 east to Chippewa falls and follow the signs to the lake (there is an exit marked for the state park). From Rochester, come up to Eau Claire and then take 53 north to 29, and then take the same exit for the lake.

Putting in at the state park will give you lot of safe water to work with. You could go out to the main lake and have 6000 acres of relatively hazard-free wter in which to put the boat through its paces. Drop me a PM for more info, directions, and a fishing tip or two.

Petenwell is in central WI. It’s a flowage. More shallow than Wissota, lots of stumps and humps. I’ve only been on it once. No idea about Big Lake.

Why not on Green Bay itself??? Boat size an issue??

If you do Wissota, going from the park to the big lake, you need to watch to the left as it opens up. There is a big sand bar to the left that extends a ways into the big lake. Also there are stumps to the right, closer to shore. If the wind us up, the big lake can be extremely rough! If you go out to the left of the park, there is some good water to test out a boat. Have a friend that lives out that way with a ski boat he can open up without any problem there. Good luck.

Ok I get the picture. Well that case I would shoot for Petenwell or Castle Rock flowage on the Wisc. river. Will be about a 3 hour trip for you and 2+ for him if my memory is still working. Off Hwy 21 west of Oshkosh a good hour.
