What’s a good price for standard coverage on Car Ins.
I have a 2003 Trailblazer and a 2005 F150 4×4 truck.
I’m paying around $700.00 every 6 month and feel that’s a high.

hell yeah that’s high…you should be paying that for the year, if not less
Unless you have a really bad driving record
It depends what area you are in “zip code” $1400 sounds about right I pay almost that for 1 vehicle with a clean record.
My 2000 Grand Caravan and my 2001 Focus cost me $738 every six months. Jeff, which company is your insurance with and how much is your deductible? Yours is less than mine (for what we’re each driving), and my record is spotless. I have State Farm.
I think that is a bit high. I have State Farm but I carry both cars, boat, and homeowners with them for the group discount and a couple of others. I would think you could get a better rate especially since you are outside the Metro Milwaukee area.
Derek
Man I pay less than that and I have 4 vehicles with two teenaged drivers that I’m paying for…
you better do some shopping Jeff
You should be able to cut that in half. Check with Erie Insurance Exchange.
Jeff,
get ahold of Scott Steil here on IDA. he did a good job for me with my new boat insurance, and I think can look and get quotes and shop around for you for your best coverage and rates. let us know how it goes.
Jack…
My auto insurance runs me about $1900/yr. for 2 vehicles. A 2004 Trailblazer, and a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 4×4. Both of these vehicles are leased and by law carry higher coverages than is required for a “purchased” vehicle.
My Insurance Co. is Rural Mutual Ins. and I have $500.00 deductible and the wife and I have a clean driving record.
At $1400.00 a year I should be a gold club member.
Thank you all for your feedback. By reading the post so far it’s a toss up.
I still think $1400.00 a year is to high and I’ll have to go shopping.
I hate shopping
One thing that is a must, I want to stay local with a Ins. Co. unless I can get a good reference from IDA members.
So if you guys got a good Ins Co. that your happy with and I can save a few hundreds buck shoot me some phone numbers.
Thank You all
It is hard to compare becuase everybody might have different coverage limits, different deductibles, free rental cars, glass coverage, under insured motorist coverage, etc….Fact is that you drive 2 new 4 wheel drive(which they charge you more for because 4X4’s are more expensive to fix if in an accident) and the rate you pay is about right in my mind. Also, just remember you get what you pay for…if you go with a no name that is half the price of a reputable known insurance company, expect half of the customer service when you need them most.
my .02
fishandski…….
It sounds like your paying about the average out there.. about the only thing you can do is call around.. we recently switched to Gieko(sp?) because they offered us a much lower rate… all you can do it call.. You dont exactly live in the *sticks*… your premiums will be higher than some because of it.
When i switched to am fam, my rates cut in half, the agent said something about the company being based out of wisconsin has a bit to do with it, not sure what that has to do but I have saved a good chunk of loot.
Jeff,
I am paying $932.00 a year for a Nissan 350Z, a Pick up truck and a 1977 Pontiac Bontiville, which is classified as a collector’s car. The Z has collison, the others do not. I recently switched to Hartford Ins and cut my bill by almost $300.00. I also have one speeding ticket on my record, thanks to the Z. I am retired and 58 years old so that might make a differance.
I have USAA and have a 98 f150 4×4 and a ’00 explorer. I don’t pay anywhere NEAR what you guys are paying.
