Some jerk neighbor of mine called the city on my dog. He is still getting use to the house and barks at strangers(duh). I will take the matter to court if need be. If I need to resort to a bark collar, does anyone recommend a brand or have any experience with one?

    Thanks

I can’t reccomend any specific brand, because I didn’t pay attention to it, But my one dog tend to bark alot, and we borrowed one for him for a couple weeks, after the first shock or two, he knew not to bark anymore, this collar would let them bark once, before it shocked him, for us this was kind of a last resort type of thing too, we tried and tried training him to stop barking when he was told to, but it just didn’t work. I returned the one I borrowed and I bought a cheap one from cabelas, I think I paid something like $30 or so for it, I have yet to see him get shocked with this one I actually kind of question how good it does actually work since I’ve never seen this one work, but he know what it’s all about because he certainly doesn’t bark with it on, so atleast I know it works that way

Kind of a crappy option in my opinion to use a bark collar, but the bottom line is, you don’t always have much of a choice, it does work, and atleast my dog learns quickly

I have a beagle and its there nature to bark but I guess you can’t have them barking at night because the neighbors have a right to peace and quiet too. So I got one to put on him at night….. partly because I have rabbits running all around the back yard that is fenced in and we let the dog run back there.

I got a catalog from a friend I beleive it was a company called foster. I did some checking at all the pet stores around and this was the best deal. I paid about $75 and its the kind that you can recharge with an electric cord. I did not want to spend all the time and dollars on a battery operated model………. So far it works great and you can hear when it is being used…. Don’t know if my dog is a slow learner but he still gets corrected every now and then but when i put it on him at night usually I don’t hear a peep out of him. I so much want to leave it off but when I have around 10:30 he starts up with the barking… so its just a routine now.

Its one of the best things i think i have done with him. Its not fair to the neighbors and I feel responsible when he barks late at night when its time to sleep——-

Good Luck and if you can’t find it online i’ll look for a catalog and give you the exact info.

Derek,I have a Tri-Tronics bark collar. They are a good brand but can be high priced. It didn’t take my dogs long to learn when the collar is on they don’t bark.Take it off and they go back to barking at times.I do not like leaving these type of collars on for any length of time.A dog can devolope a rash or sore on his neck if the collar has probes on it and it left on him/her for too long.
    Best of luck,

    Derek,
Although I don’t like to see dogs with bark collars, it is probably the most effective way to control the barking. I have known people who have barking dogs who tune out the barking such that they don’t even know when the dog is barking.

I know for my wife and myself, a barking dog can be extremely nerve racking. Maybe you also have some neighbors that are adversely affected by barking. To say they are “jerks” just because they reported your dog may not be the case – maybe they have young children trying to sleep, or are ill, or keep odd hours and need to sleep during the day, or maybe a barking dog just gets on their nerves and drives them crazy.

A person who lets their dog bark so much that it drives the neighbors to reporting it to the authorities, needs to realize that barking does disturb people (not jerks) around them. I don’t think there is a court in the world that will side with you to let you keep a barking dog. In all probability, the court will tell you to get rid of the dog if you can’t keep it quiet.

My advice would be to get the collar and make peace with the neighbors by saying you did not realize the barking disturbed them and if any barking occurs in the future please have them call you, instead of the authorities.

Thanks for the great replies guys. I’m going to court on the matter first. Hearsay shouldn’t hold up in court. I don’t want to train my dog not to bark, hes very protective and hes just doing his job.. But I want to plan for the worse..

I have to give thumbs up to tri-tronics also,, execellent product and top notch cutomer service to back it up.
I own a bark and a trainer,, had a problem with the trainer and when TRI couldn’t solve the problem over the phone they sent a new one out.
