I was looking at a 1850 Fishhawk today…whats a comparable Lund? Anyone have either of these? Also found out that a 150 E-tech weighs 34 lbs LESS than a 115hp 4 stroke Yammie.

I’d think the Explorer would be closer to a Fishhawk.

    Happy birthday.

Pro-V is the best way to go.

I’ve got a 16′ FishHawk and wouldn’t trade it for a Lund. Though I don’t like the 2005 floor designs for either.

I have owned several lunds from explorer to pro v and I would agree with skindog ,if your looking at a fishawk a explorer would be a closer comparison,I have a pro v now and if I were to buy a new boat tommorow it would be a explorer, I like the top loading rod box, and the gunnels with the track for rod holders and the cover are the best.a great boat!

I love my 1750 Fishawk but my neighbor Mr Eyejacker got a nice Mr Pike and it’s a beauty. I guess it depends on how much you want to spend.

I would recommend checking out an Alumacraft 175 Navigator or 175 Tournament Pro. The Navigator is comparable to the Fish hawk and the Explorer. The Tournament is comparable to the Pro V. Both are awesome boats. Check them out.

Hey SteveO, If you think it looks good, wait ’til you fish out of it (in October), cost be da@m*d (literiary license } Bottom line, in my book, the decision is basically a Chevy vs Ford(vs Dodge) question! It is primarily a matter of value (i.e bang for the buck) and that is relative as everyone has their own measure!

I second this. I am not sponsored by any boat manufacturer right now. Here is why I picked the Navigator for a boat I planned to keep…
93″ wide. The widest 175 on the market. As James said, it looks like a 19 footer with the back end cut off by 2 feet!

1 livewell. I don’t need 2. I like the extra compartments in the back. And with the E-TEC, I don’t have an oil tank in back either.

Two rod lockers. Anyone fishing with me can put all of their rods in their own locker, and I get mine.

Easy to run wiring for toys. I put lights in my rod lockers.

Narrower gunnels, giving you more usable room in the boat.

Galvanized trailer with a swing tounge. Nothing tee’s me off more than having a new boat, and rusty rock chips on the trailer!

Not knocking the Lund at all. What are the points that you are sold on with the Lund? I have never owned one, and am just curious.
    Thanks!

My youngest son Nate has a 2005 175 Alumacreaft Navigator thats for sale. Its a Smittys Marine Demo boat with a 90 ETEC but can be bought with any size motor and you can trade a boat in on it too. Its listed in the classifieds. His boat has two livewells.
    Thanks, Bill

Haven’t looked at the alumacraft. What I have noticed is the Fishhawk has a larger rear deck than the lund, (explorer or pro-v). The Fishhawk also has narrower gunnels, yet wide enough to mount rod holders. I have not talked $$ with a Lund dealer but sticker seems a bit less with the Crestliner. I have not been able to get to an Alumicraft dealer yet. Looks like a trip to PDC may be in my future since Starks has both.

I like my Lund Mr Pike 17 alot, lotsa room, it has the gunnels like the Fishhawk and the Navigator, I see Alumacraft is coming out with a new 17′ called the Dominator, it is a nice looking boat. Very similar to my Mr Pike. Only thing I would do different is max out the hp and get a second console.

Bill you seem to be pushing Nate’s boat a little much don’t ya? I have a Princecaft. I really love these boats. I am looking right now like you are and really like the Explorers. I don’t like design of the Crestliners. It seems the Lunds have a little more storage room and a few better annemities than the Crestliners. Like they said before it is like comparing cars or trucks these days…its all in what “YOU” want.

I have fished out of Nates boat and it has a ton of room. I was shocked at first about the room when I first saw it. Very nice boat. Just trying to save someone some money on a very nice rig. I’m not looking for a boat but I do snoop at times in the boat section and do notice the posts names in the left side of the screen where new threads are listed. I have a Mr. Pike 16, 2001 model, which has the gunnels like the Pro V does and love the boat. I’ve owned two Alumacrafts and two Lunds. Both are great boats. They are getting to be very expensive so when I see someone looking at models that are like Nates I do mention his as they can save some money. Its only been used since March I believe, not very long anyway. Mr son-in-law has a 1999 Mr. Pike 17 which is like yours [same style as Nates Navigator], and he really likes his. Glad to hear you like yours. They are nice boats.
    Thanks, Bill

Well as you can tell, I do not think there is a better boat than another scenario. I believe that it is all personal preference. All these rigs are pretty much equal, just little difference that set them apart. What one guy likes about a boat, the next may not give a rats butt about, but likes the other feature.

I think there has been an opinion on every decent type of boat except Tracker. Has anyone rode or know anyone that has the big Tracker Tundra 21′ Walleye boat?????

Rob..Yes and Yes and I will stick with my Ranger.

Most boats will meet or exceed the needs of the average angler, it is just a matter of what features you want and need out of your boat.

Rob: my boater from the FLW walleye tourny on Pool 4 (Dave Domonoski) has one of those Tracker walleye pro boats. Tournament day was my first trip in one of those big boys. The ride was smooth, solid and really dry. That day featured some pretty big waves, and we ran ~ half of the lake to and from the launch to hit our spots. I was bone dry at the end of the day, and I know in my C-liner I would have been damp, and my partner would have been thoroughly bathed.

Having said that, one thing I didn’t care for was the relatively high deck on the bow. It seemed like there was very very little hull rising over the deck below the gunnels. One false move, it seemed, and someone could get wet in a hurry. It also seemed like the rear deck was a little long, such that it took a big reach with the net to bring in a fish over the stern. One thing I did like about the design was the large, deep “working area” between the consoles and the rear deck. Also, from my brief time in that rig, it also seemed like there was plenty of storage.

I agree with what has been said on comparison Fishhawk vs Explorer vs Pro-V. $ for $ the Fishhawk will stack up well agains the Explorer. The Pro-V is in a different class and the price will likely reflect that. If you can get one for the same price by all means do so!!!

I looked at 17′ versions of these boats last year. The main selling point for me was that I just preferred the deck layout of the Fishhawk to the others in the console model. If buying a tiller, I would lean towards the Navigator (the Fishhawk tiller version front deck is not as long and the Navigator is wider throught the length of the boat). I do a lot of casting from the front deck and the Fishhawk deck on the console model is HUGE. The rear deck is also easier to figure 8 off of the transom.

My only gripe about the Fishhawk is that dual rod lockers would have been nice instead of the livewell / drywell that is on the starboard side. This hasn’t really been a big issue for me but it seems that they could have made better use of the available space on the starboard side. The ’05’s have a larger livewell / drywell compartment which I think is better than the ’04’s.

Great points Pete! I should have mentioned mine is a tiller. I am not farmilliar with the console models…

I have a tracker boat, its a fish and ski, not a walleye boat, but I’ve had probelms with workmanship …. so far (4 tow-in’s in less than 2 years) I’ve had too many problems to consider tracker as a reliable option … I’ll never even consider tracker again. ….. sour grapes for sure.

Just to add two cents, I’m a proud Crestliner owner with ZERO problems. Have the 21′ sportfish, and when in “fish” mode everyone I’ve taken out in it is amazed at the room, the fishability, and the speed and performance of the big boat.

After owning a 1800 Pro V, and a 182 TS, I have to say the next boat I own is probably going to be an Explorer or Navigator. The Pro V is a great boat, but for the average guy, I think you get more ‘bang for your buck’ with an Explorer.
