Guys from the Quad Cities have been hearing that they are drawing pool #5 down. Is this true? Can we still fish the backwaters and chutes? We spend a week up there the end of September fishing Bass, Walleye, Crappie, and Whites.

    Thanks for any info

Hey Jim, I don’t know the answer to your questions about how the water being lowered has made the areas you want to fish as I haven’t been down there since June 12th. But yes, on June 13th they started a 1 1/2 ft – 2 ft draw down of pool 5 to help restore vegetation in the backwaters. This should help in the long run as it has on other pools where they did this.
    Thanks, Bill

    Jim,

The pool 5 drawdown has been really successful so far. They originally only wanted to lower the pool 1-1 1/2 feet but with the lack of rain this summer it went almost 4′ down. They lowered the water then few weeks later they raised it up again, then lowered it once more. They did this so that the vegetation would get watered. Since they did that the vegetation has grown very succesfully. When the water was at it lowest one could really find some neat new areas to fish especially when the high water comes in the spring.

When you arrive in September the fishing should still be good. Most of the fish in pool 5 are now out in the main channel. IF you like sunnies, now is the time. One can load up on sunnies in a matter of an hour.

    Good luck to you.
