You must do whatever it takes to go to Alaska and experience the incredible flyfishing that it has to offer. Just remember there are 2 Alaska’s, one is on the road system and can be elbow to elbow fishing often with mediocre results. The other is the remote Alaska best experienced by getting more than 100 miles from Anchorage by air.
We are located about 450 miles from Anchorage and fish places that have no other fisherman and numbers of fish that truly boggle the mind.
For the flyfisherman to be able to catch 50 to 100 plus 2-8 lb Arctic char per day (with some 5-10 lb wild rainbows mixed in) is truly as close to dying and going to heaven as one can get on this earth.
For those of you who have put off making your pilgrimage to mecca (Alaska) start making those plans now before it is to late. I do not believe that anyone has ever regreted making a trip to Alaska.
You can fish freestones and spring creeks, but until have fished the volcanic drainages of the Alaska Peninsula you may not as yet have lived.
As good as the fly fishing is anglers using conventional tackle will still usually catch twice as many fish!
Life is short fish hard.
