These are from just N of Myr Mar Marina. There was lots of damage, these are just a few that were close to the cabin. We took a ride to brainerd that morning, there was trees down on homes, vehicles, ect. There was also a boat that must have been 28’+ flipped just N of Garrison, didn’t get a pic of that but it was impressive. They sya they were just straight line winds, but, I saw lots of trees that were twisted?? A little rotation maybe?

August 12, 2005 at 1:02 am #377848It was a nasty storm……..I was on my way to work and got as far as Buck’s Resort and the highway was completly blocked with downed trees. From Carlsona to MyrMar are hundreds of trees down…….80 mph winds they say. I know it was blowing like H@#l at our house at 5am. People are still cutting up trees today, many are still without power. Here is a picture that morning. It was still a little dark, Shows the cars stopped on the road….not able to go on past Bucks.
August 12, 2005 at 1:51 am #377859we have a resort on the south end and that storm did some major crap to our docks. we were out of power for about 20 minutes. winds blowing like crazy. we have a floating dock system and we leave them in during the winter. we are in a very protected area so we can. but the wind made the docks look like spring again. then we have a 50 gallon barrel where people put their crushed cans. all 50 gallons went all over the yard. and out neighbor had two boats on his trailers and the wind took one boat and threw it into the other. no damage but a lot of work to get it back up there.
August 12, 2005 at 1:54 am #377862The storm went around the north end of the lake. When I looked at the radar, it looked like it was coming right at us. The lake does some weird things with a storm path. I have always been told that if a storm does come across the lake, it will be a bad one
Tuck, no damage near home…..only on the north end.
August 12, 2005 at 2:06 am #377869Many years ago when my family owned a popular resort on millacs, we had a tornado come across the lake and sucked up alot of the water. You had a beach frontage for about 100 yds. out. If I can get the picture from my mom I will post it here. Does any one else remember this, it was back in the late 70’s early 80’s???? Say 78 to 83, I was young so the date is tough to pin point.
August 12, 2005 at 2:24 am #377875Hey Chris, Josh was down her in the cities but he went back up Wednesday, said lots and lots of sticks, that is the extent. Course Doug won’t have much as his yard is tree free Thanks for asking
August 12, 2005 at 2:30 am #377877‘Cept for the one with the face on it
Did anyone figure out who put it there? My guess is Big D.
August 12, 2005 at 2:37 am #377880I remember that one…..many folks have pictures of that funnel cloud. We were driving up to the lake when that one hit. I pulled over just north of Ogilve on highway 47 and watched!
I have on a number of occations seen the wind suck the lake dry! You can walk around the docks and not get wet! But look out when the water comes back……..down that is!
August 12, 2005 at 2:42 am #377882Is that the one where people were finding fish in their yards across the highway?
If so, I remember that…August 12, 2005 at 3:14 am #377895I remember having to walk out about 100 yards to drag our rental boats back through the mud. Should have waited for the funnel cloud to drop the water and rode the wave in . I have alot better memories than that. It sure was a site to see though. Ahhhhh the better days….
August 12, 2005 at 11:18 am #377914Chris I bet you’re right–he probably does those funny things to his lot so he has entertainment JOsh’s cows got laid I mean leyed supose he felt left out and did that himself too?
August 12, 2005 at 11:37 am #377919Nope, not me. Last time I was there, the dock bite wasn’t going well for one of the fisherpersons, so the gal moved to a different spot. I am sure by now she is sitting in the cabin at the table drinking my beer and watching some tv.
My list of suspects is getting smaller.August 12, 2005 at 12:27 pm #377925i had 2 trees come down in my yard. taking a walk around the neighborhood later tuesday there were a few boat lifts that were overturned, no boats on them, and a few other trees down. it was blowing real hard at about 0530. the lake came up over the docks due to all the water being pushed into the bay, then it would go out and there would be 30 feet of sand. this went on all day long, a little less each time. you could tell when it was happening, the creek on the north side of my house would start to run backward, then it would flow the right way. this would happen about every half hour of so. it was really wierd to watch. i don’t know how pronounced it was on the big lake, but in cove bay the water level came up all most 3 feet at the highst point……….tom f

July 12, 2011 at 5:49 pm #980101Will do Bret in fact, just this morning, Bobber had some guy drop off 3 RAM mounts to me in my office, that I need to take up next time and give to him
July 12, 2011 at 7:09 pm #980130i thought this was from sunday night, until i looked at the names and dates. cove bay and the mazominee point area on the big lake side was hit hard by storm surge sunday night. alot of docks were damaged and some boats and jet ski’s were set adrift from the surge. not much tree damage, only a few limbs were down in my neighborhood. saw a 21′ speed boat on the beach by jerry brant’s that you could walk all the way around and not get your feet wet. i was thinking somewhere around 50 – 70mph winds out of the northwest.
