My family and I took a trip to NE South Dakota for a week and tried some of the lakes in the area. We fished south waubay the first day drifting with jigs and harnesses and caught 4 fish all of them being over 14″ other than that the bite was slow for us. A couple of other boats however had some good luck I think they got around 15 fish or so. We also fished Enemy swim twice, we fished on some boulder flats by the big island for smallmouth we caught 6 nice fish the first day and saw tons more on the underwater camera so it was a little frustrating not being able to get them to bite. The second day we were on Enemy we decided to do some panfishing because the bass action was verrry slow. We ended up catching some real good sunnies in about 13 F.O.W. We also fished Swan Lake where we had some really good luck last year, but the fish were quiet there too this week. I caught 2 30″ nothern but that was it for 4 hours of fishing. It was pretty tough fishing with the temperature in the low 90’s the whole trip. Right now it seems like Waubay is still your best bet for consistent walleye action but im sure the rest of the lakes will get better when it gets into early fall. Even though the fishing wasnt great we went scouting for ducks and it looks like itll be another quality year out there so im pumped to get back out there in a couple of months
