Good Thoughts Not Needed………..This Time

‘Son of Putz’ called last night and said “Tell Mom not to worry. They let me out of the hospital and I’ll be alright.” Evidently he tangled with another bike at about 100mph going into turn 3 while racing at BIR yesterday. Both drivers seem to be ok but the bikes will need work. There are a few holes in his leathers and the shield and part of the side of his helmet were ripped off so they will have to be replaced. I guess he landed on his back and couldn’t get air for a while so they strapped him to the stretcher and off to the ambulance. The only thing he remembers is the ovation he heard from the crowd when he gave them the thumbs up on the way.

I told him that if he wants to beat up his body, he should play broomball like I did. It’s a lot cheaper. Mama just shook her head again, mumbling something about insanity running in the male side of this family.

Probably not of much interest to most, but thought it was time for some better news on this forum.

I grew up in the Brainerd area and have seen some wild stuff at BIR.
I coolest/wildest thing that I ever saw. Turn 1 comes after a 1/4+ mile straight strech, speed over 180 are common, well this rider missed the corner and drove straight off the track. The ditch is about 4 feet deep, I think he flew over that with no problems. A few seconds later the bike and rider popped back onto the track just before turn 2. He drove his race bike through 150 yards of waist high grass, trees and misc. That had to be one hell of a ride.

Glad to hear the kid is OK.

It was time for some good news…and leathers, bikes and helmets can be replaced. Never met the chip off the old lutefisk…but can’t help but like the guy!

When he used your computer while you were out still cracks me up!

Keep them bones in one piece SOP!

You better bring Boss of Putz some flowers…

Yeah, we get those calls too–After our son gets treated and he knows a bill will be coming our way he thinks he better let us know. The thing though I don’t think we get the full “college story” of how the mishap happened Glad your son is ok!

Glad to here “Son of Putz” is doing alright. Mom can talk to him till she’s blue in the face….he’s not gonna give it up.

Being a race track photographer I’ve seen alot of bad deals with racing. It’s amazing how they have that “will power” to get back out
I think they have ice in their veins and most of the time no matter what people tell them they will not give it up!

I was at a dirt track in southern Minnesota for an United States Modified Tour Series race that went very bad. The video of the crash was on the local news in the Rochester area. It was the worse crash I have witnessed. I believe 12 cars were involved in the accident on the back stretch. These cars were clocked earlier that day going over 95 miles an hour on the backstretch! A couple of the lead cars got into each other and got turned around in the track which caused a train crash effect. The #65 car of Tommy Myers had run into a car in front of him and was then pile drived at full throttle by the last car. Not sure what happened that the last car wasn’t able to stop. Heard brakes had failed from hitting them to hard. Five drivers were sent to the hospital. Four were out of the hospital the next morning. The #65 of Tommy Myers is back out in winning form also. The one driver of the five is still undergoing therapy and is doubtful about going racing again.

They all know going in the consquences, but their love for speed and competition out weighs thems to no end!
Good luck to you, “Son of Putz”! ….and be SAFE!!

I am glad to hear your son is ok.
i know the feelings of your wife. My youngest daughter Ann has a sportster Harley she converted over into a racing bike. She raced a couple weeks ago here in Iowa. Somewhere down by Elkador. She never has called to let me know the outcome.
Some of you met her at the GTG last winter in PDC. She is so gutszy. Drives me crazy to hear of the things she does. Will she ever grow up? 39 this end of this month.

Hi guys! I am typing this from home and not the hospital and that’s a good thing. I guess I tried to outbrake about 10 bikes coming into turn three on the inside.

    Uhh, it didn’t work.

So I have some bruised ribs, a mild concussion, and I feel like I tried to get in the way of OldFartPutz and a plate of lutefisk.

Thank you kind folks for the well wishes. You guys are the best!
