I am trying to purchase an Iowa Non-Resident Anterless Deer Hunting license. To purchase this you must have a gun or hunting safety certificate on file with Iowa DNR. This is the first time I will be hunting in Iowa so I have nothing on file with them. I took my gun safety course when I was like 12 years old here in MN. I have no idea where my certificate is. Does anyone know where I would locate this?? Does the MN DNR keep records like this or would the county?? Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Yes they do, but before you go that far take a look at your drivers license, it may be on the rear of the card under your endorsements. Otherwise call them at 1-888-646-6367 or (651) 296-6157 .

I did the same thing last year and thought I would have to retake the class. I called the DNR on a prayer and a hope. They had my certificate on hand and mailed me a copy. I think they charged me about $3.

You do realize you missed the first draw for bucks and the only tag you can get now is a doe tag… Right?

You may try your instructor. My Dad kept copies of all his student’s certificates.

I will give the DNR a call. My main problem is I took the safety class when I was around 12 years old, and that is a long time ago . So I hope they still have my records.

I called the DNR and they have my certificate I was kind of dreading the thought of taking it again as an adult. They will send me a duplicate and the cost is $5. Thanks for the help guys.

I don’t know if it would be different for a non-res but this might help. You may not need one depends on your age.

For a non-resident you need to provide a gun/hunter safety certificate if you were born after 1967, which I was. And all this time I thought I was getting OLD.
