    What are some good tactics for river walleye fishing during the summer? What do you use and how do you fish it? Where can most walleyes be found in a river system?

    If you know anything that could help that would be great!! I am going up to the English River next week, and i haven’t really fished many rivers, im mainly a lake fisherman.

    2 tactics I would try are trolling and jigging. This should get you past the border patrol.

    Okay. Trolling shad style crankbaits worked for us up there. Just like the river down here I would think you want something to get down to the bottom. Shad raps, walley divers and bombers. Chartruse and fire tiger where our best producers. A rod set up with some power pro line should troll these pretty nice, help with the snags and prevent so many bite offs from the northerns. Not all bite offs but should help.
    As far as jigs go bring jigs from 1/8 threw 3/8th ounce. Pick up some k grubs or ring worms from BfishN. Try these vertical jigging and pitching at structures and current breaks. Chartruse, Purple with a white taal are a couple of my favorites.

    Not sure of what your boat is out fitted with but I would make sure you have a depth finder, trolling motor and a good anchor with atleast 50′ if not 100′ of rope. Most people seem to just work the main motor for trolling when I was up there. Last thing I wanted to do in canada was listen to a motor running right next to me all day. We packed a deep cycle, charge, 38# transom mount trolling motor, and my FL8 to bring with. Just shot the FL8 threw the hull with just a little water for the transducer to sit in. Not high tech but should you where the bottom was. You would be just running blind with out a depth finder.

    If you have some time get out and fish the river down here. The knowledge you get might come in handy up there.

    Good luck up there. It has been 5 years since i have been there and am still looking forward to getting back someday. It was on my way home from that last trip that the wife called and let me know we where haveing twins. So much for a annual trip after that.

    Also;

    A good search tool is a spinner harness and minnow/crank on a bottom bouncer. You can cover ground and keep in tight to the bottom.

    It is a really fun fishery up there. LOTS of big walleyes, pike, & MUSKIES!!!! (If I recall correctly, Naughty Pines had 3 muskies over 50lbs pulled out of that system, with the largest at 57lbs.)

    When I took my dad up there, we went Memorial Day weekend to catch the fish spawning/post spawn to have easy fishing. (My dad was 77 at the time, so I had to keep it simple) We averaged 50 to 70 walleyes a day fishing shallow reefs, pulling orange blade spinner rigs with fatheads.

    Get ahold of Zammer and I’m sure he will mark up a map for you!!!

    A flasher/graph is critical, since you will not have any “bottom structure/contour line” maps.

    I too, can mark up a map where we caught fish for you as well.

    What resort are you staying at?

    Mike,

    We are staying at Cozy Camp. If either one of you could get me hooked up with a map of hotspots that would be awesome, just shoot me a personal message. Thanks for the help!!! Keep it coming.
