Muskie hunters – I bought some of the braided power pro (80lb) because I had broken off two lures recently but was shocked to find that it cost $27.00. Is there a line out there that is sufficient for less money? thanks

Power Pro is well worth the money, but at 27.00 where in to world did you pay that kind of price? Gander, Walmart, even some bait shope charge less. I got mine at Gander for less then 14.00. My next choice would be Spider Wire, not much difference in price thou.

Muskygirl – i forgot to mention, it is a 300 yard spool so I can hopefully spool two reels. Is it still worth it?

Dan, I respectfully disagree. Cortland Spectron is my choice. It may be pricey but it can go up to 5 yrs without being replaced.

I’ve been using Tuff Line. 80# on the jerk bait rod and 50# on the bucktail rod. It seems to work OK for me.

Well then, thats a pretty good price. I would pay 27 just for the 150 yard spool thou if that what it went up to. I started using the 80lb power pro back when I was hunting 30lb plus carp. IT NEVER BROKE. I used it the last three years muskie fishing, NEVER LAST A FISH TO BROKEN LINE. Used for flathead cat fishing this year, same story. Even when I get snagged, I end up pulling an anchored boat towards the snag before I have to finally cut it because it is that hard to break. I’ll use nothing else.

When you buy a reel at Thorne brothers for Muskies they put on 80lb Tuff line,I have had good luck with that.

I accually have been hearing a lot about pp and so i went out today and respooled my bucktail rod with 50 pound pp. i absolutely HATE it. nothing but problems from the start. half an hour into mu outing tonight i took off all the pp i had on and respooled it with tuff line. thats my 2 cents. dont get me wrong i tried it and i gave it a whirl but didnt like it. i think i am going to stick with tuff line.

fish4fish888 – what seemed to be the problem(s) that you were experiencing? was it memory, backlashes, too thin?

I use the 80 lb. Tuff line also and like it a lot. Some people have told me that the two are basically the same, but I think I will just stick with the Tuff line.

I also have 2 reels with 80# Tuff line. may have to cut off about 4 feet, before I use it this year, but it has lasted a long time in good shape.

I’ve been using tuff line for many years without one bit of dissapointment or failure.

I have it on 10 rods at home.

Today, I have no other reason to use anything else………

It is limp enough to cast a mile, yet strong enough where it doesn’t wrap around eyelets or break off.

Fray is minimal and like Jack said, I will strip off 4 feet or so when needed to get rid of the fray during abusive use on LOTW for a week.

I bought PP once and really didn’t like it. I ended up going back to Tuff Line.
