Hey all, I have been experiencing a problem with my truck. It runs rough when I’m turning the wheel. It runs fine unless I’m turning. It’s a 1999 Chevy Tahoe.
    Any ideas?

    Steve,
Does it act like it is going to die when you crank the wheel, or when you are taking corners???

Yeah, it sounds like it’s going to die when I take a corner. I havne’t tried just cranking the wheel when I’m not moving, but I have to run out here for a sec, and I’ll try that.

    Thanks,

Okay, I just got back. It runs fine when I’m sitting and turning the wheel. It’s only when the car is moving and I turn that there is a problem.

Does the power steering make any noise when turning. The pump and or bearing might be going in the power steering unit. This might cause the engine to work more when you are maken the corner. Just guessing but just maybe

Sounds fuel related to me? Fuel filter, maybe a week fuel pump?

There is no ‘whine’ when I turn, it just feels like the truck wants to die, and I’m hearing some squealing like the tire is not turning very well.

how full is your fuel tank i have seen pick-up tubes cracked and if your tank is low the fuel will slosh away from the tube and you will get air in the line when turning

If your hearing some sqealing I might think that would be the power steering pump and what the above post said that will definetly make the engine work harder.

I would have to say that the fuel pump is getting week or the fuel filter is plugged. I also think that maybe either big B or big dad is a mechanic. I just can’t remember who it is.

I would guess if it is the power steering pump, that when the truck is sitting in park and you crank the wheel tight to the left or right, it will apply additional pressure to the power steering pump lines. This will cause an engine to choke at idle, if the pump is bad.

If the truck is choking while taking corners, but not at park, then it isn’t the steering mechanism.

I agree it appears to be a fuel problem delivery problem.

Hate to say it, but it sounds like you should take it to a reasonable shop for them to trouble shoot.
