Anybody running these motors that could give me some pros and cons. I mainly use the motor for trolling, so keep that in mind. I would just like a little more top end than my 50 4 stk, but boat maxes at 90hp. thanks

For me my next boat will have a T TEC I do believe, 4 stroke economy with 2 stroke grunt and quiet.

No matter what brand or model you choose, the general rule of thumb is ‘no less than 75% of maximum rated hsp’.
Looks like you’re under powered to start with.

My 75 E-TEC is performing wonderfully, both trolling and flat out. I love it!

I have a new E TEC 40hp on my boat. I can not speak to durability yet but I really like what I have seen so far.
    very quiet, and strong.

I just put a 90 hsp Optimax on my Lund 1675 Explorer SS once I get the correct prop fitted on her I believe this will be an excellent motor…and she runs down at a low 625 rpms for trolling I’ll keep you up to date on this one

75 Honda here, very quiet and fuel efficient. Awesome motor in my book!

I’m not sure how far you are from Prairie du Chien but your welcome to come over and run my motor to see what you think

I am running a 75hp. E-Tech on my Pro Angler 16 and just love it. The hole shot is unbelieveable compared to my old 60hp 4 stroke. It is just as quiet and even more stingy on fuel. It trolls at 1.8 mph on my gps. :

My prop issues have been completely taken care of…Let me tell you that Starks did a fantastic job dealing with me on this…I tried 3 different props before I decided on the right one…The 90 hsp Optimax is a true performer I’m getting 42mph (gps) and a real good hole shot to boot !! I was trolling with her this morning and it was settling in at 625 rpms and depending on the current I was going 0-1.1mph at idle and purrs like a kitten…I have put 7 hours on this motor so far and ran about 14 gallons of gas and 1 gallon of oil. (The motor is designed to inject twice the oil for the first 10 hours)This motor is quieter than my 50 2-stroke Merc

Sounds like we need to have a race, Opti vs. Etec vs. 4 banger!!!

so we hook up a external gas tank, put 2 gallons in it and see who gets the furthest, the fastest ? something like that ?

Well the furthest if you beleive their numbers would be E-Tec and the fastest would not be the 4 stroke.

    ecnook,

If you don’t mind me asking what prop did you end up with on your Opti. I have a new 115 Opti and I’m still looking at props other than the Alum. that came with the boat and motor.

    I ended up with a 20p LaserII

I’m getting 55-5600 rpms at full throttle

E-TEC, but I figured I would wait one year. I suspect they are all good, but the more I hear about E-TEC the better it sounds.

Try to run all of them before you make your decision. My 90hp E-TEC has been an excellent motor.

    E-TEC 75/90hp 320lbs.
    Mercury OptiMax 75/90hp 375lbs.
    4-stroke 75/90hp 386lbs.
    Yamaha 4-stroke 75/90hp 369lbs.
