Would a 550 cold cranking amp battery be big enought for a 75hp motor or does it need to be bigger.
    Thanks,

I’d go with the biggest one you can fit in, most CCA and the most reserve time, especially if you run many electronics off it also.

    Shultzee,

I have a 90 merc 2-smoker with an AM/FM/CD, marine radio and fish locator running on the starter battery. The locator is on all the time…long with the fm radio. Last spring I bought a fleet farm 650. It never “failed” me, but when I put a charger on it, I could tell that it was low. Also when it was time to go home, the volt meter on the locator was reading 11.1 to 11.5 many times. So in my opinion…I would say no (depending on how much you use it and if you plan on charging it at home or not). In my case it’s not the motor that was the drain, it was the electronic gizmozs.

Fireman said it best…get the largest one you can afford that will still fit…or have a kicker for a back up!
