Those tasty delights are just finishing up down here in central Iowa.
It was a so so year, on the dry side. Have fun!May 10, 2005 at 12:54 pm #362213Still finding some in SE Iowa. Had some fresh sunday night.
Getting pretty dry though.May 10, 2005 at 1:52 pm #362236I haven’t had any yet and I haven’t heard of any one getting them this year like usual. I love them babbies.
Normally some one brings me a bag of them.May 10, 2005 at 2:39 pm #362258I live just south of hastings and I didnt find any on sunday. I think we are about a week and 1/2 early provided we get some more warm weather. sure was fun to go for a walk in the woods though. on a side note look for sheds too I found one on sunday.
May 10, 2005 at 4:11 pm #362282I live in SE Minnesota by Rushford. Found a couple pounds while putting up fence yesterday. They were not there on friday morning.
May 12, 2005 at 2:59 am #362669My buddy and I went out today for probably the last time here in east-central Iowa. A good day to say the least, together we picked 17lbs of mostly yellows with a few big grays. Threw a lot away that were too far gone, crumbly and moldy.
Guess till next year it’s time to start carving them out of wood, made about 2 dozen or so far this year and mounted them on slab wood.

May 12, 2005 at 11:01 am #362692This has been somthing I have been think of doing. They sound like they are good eating. I will have to head out and look for some.
May 12, 2005 at 6:52 pm #362796Hey Adam???
You probably already know this, but in case someone else doesn’t. Make sure the mushrooms you pick are of the edible variety. People get sick and even die every year from picking the wrong ones. And morels, unfortunately, have a look-alike that are deadly (not positive on that but I’ve heard that this is true) If in doubt, throw them out!dd

Do you use these as decoys?ArtPosts: 439May 13, 2005 at 10:44 am #362878Live about 30 miles S.E. of Rochester. We found about a 5 gal. pail full Wenesday. That sight Adam put up has a lot of good info. on them. Thanks Adam.
May 13, 2005 at 12:16 pm #362888Thanks guys great to know that I will be looking for the right thing. Can’t wait to get a few of them and have them with dinner one night.
May 13, 2005 at 3:37 pm #362940I carve them kind of for the fun of it and to sell. Come to think of it the decoy thing could be a hoot…put some in the front yard and watch the people sneek in to pick what they think is going to be dinner !
May 18, 2005 at 3:49 pm #363691I only found 8 last night at one of my spots level with the twin cities. It still appears to be just starting. I guess the recent cold weather delayed things. What are others finding???
May 18, 2005 at 9:54 pm #363785I live in the Northern T.C. and went out with the kids last night looking! I couldn’t find anything but a few woodticks!
I think Morels must be the same kind of mushroom that the Smurfs lived in, and I’ve yet to see a Smurf!
