I bought a used Mossberg 500c 20 gauge for my daughter. The problem is the safety is so hard to push off that she can’t use it, anybody know if I can adjust it some how. It’s even hard for me to get it off. Any help would be great. Whatsa

There is probably dirt in the check ball behind the safety slide. I would clean it out real good and apply some oil to it.

I have a friend who has one of these for his kid. He is a machinist. He has had the safety apart several times trying to figure out why its always a problem? He has given up on it and is trading it in on something different. Sorry for the bad news. This is very frustrating.

    Good Luck.

Yes it is on top, I’ll give it a try.

I took it apart and it was very dirty, I cleaned it all out and put it back together. It’s a little better but it’s still a very stiff safety. I guess I’ll find out tomorrow if she can push it off and put it back on. If she can’t I guess I’ll be shopping for a new one. Thanks for the ideas. Whatsa

I’d call Mossberg and ask them about it. They could probably tell you what to do or if the safety is defective and needs to be replaced. Sounds like you aren’t the only one with problems so maybe they have been contacted several times and know what needs to be done.
    Thats, Bill
    Thanks, Bill

If it is still too stiff you can replace that check ball with a slightly smaller one.
