What does everyone use if they lubricate the cork on new rods ? After I sprayed and rubbed in some WD40, I wonder if there is something better to use ?

I was just fishing on Wednesday with some new rods. Believe it or not, the handles were hard to hold on to. They almost seemed slippery. Made me glad that I didn’t get any bites as the fish would have probably ripped the rod out of my hands.

I had to dip the handles in the water to get a grip. I am definitely going to get some of this cork treatment stuff…

That could be but hopefully it can give the handles a little grip because I am on the verge of buying some pine tar…

Pete Mania has handle wraps they sell on his web site!
Adds a little color , I don’t know what else they do.

There are cork sealers out there you can add to your handles to keep them from getting dirty. One thing I like to do is sand them with sandpaper and rough them up and then seal them. That should fix your problem. I only seal them so they don’t gas or oil on the handle.

I use gun stock oil, gives it a richer color and seals out the dirt.

I use fish scales, fish slime, a little redman, some old style and anything else handy, liverwurst…you name it, it all gets on my handle!

I usually grab a handfull of dirt or sand and rub that on the cork, then I go fishing, after a while, my hands get wet and cleans the cork up.

Take a look at this stuff there is a reason it is a big seller at BassPro. I’ve been using it for couple or years has a nice feel and stays on very very well.
