Ice shack heaters

I know I’m a little off season, but I’m in the planning stages of a new ice shack for next season. I want to incorporate a heater (direct vent) that will allow me to sleep in it.
Any ideas on where to begin my search for a used heater that would work? What are they mainly used in that I should be looking for? Any brands that the rest of you use? Any comments on what works well?

    Thanks all!

Sounds fun — goodluck with your build!

My only advice… bigger not neccesarily better.

Don’t go as big as I did. I have a nice ventless, I forget the brand, purchased at fleet farm. It ran between 100-120 bux. It’s about 26,000 – 28,000 btu and it’s in my 10′ x 20′ shack.

WHEW!! Get out the box of rocks — it’s a sauna in here!!

If I’m not careful (set it anywhere past 1 on a 1 to 5 scale) it’ll heat me right out of there with 100+ degrees. All season, I never put it above 1, even that weekend that was 30+ below.

Also with the ventless, I invested in a $40 battery operated CO2, smoke, etc sensor. It helped me sleep at night. My shack isn’t “air tight” like some new homes, but I still left the window cracked as well.

When I get up there next, I can snap some pics If you want.

I used a Mr. Heater Buddy and a fan to circulate the air in my medium sized permanent shack. Plenty of heat … I never run it on high. You can hang the buddy heater on the wall and it puts out plenty of heat. It’s a little more versatile than a permanently installed heater.

I think a C02 detector, smoke detector, and fire extinguisher are all must-haves.
