During the IDA Tournament, my son Ben caught a Brown Trout about 2 pounds. As we were describing the catch to LeRoy Carl during a subsequent drift, LeRoy hoisted one about 3.5 pounds or so.
Both caught on minnows and H20 jigs. That’s a lot of trout this year!

Hey hows it going? What was the length of the trout. I was just wandering. By the way, good catch. A brown trout over 2lbs is a nice fish anywhere. Thanks

    Hey Chris!
Those trout got to boogey back up the trout stream don’t they? Can they survive year round in the Miss? You wouldn’t think they could handle the warmer weather months.

I would also think that says something about the water quality to have trout in pool 4 at least part of the time. Interesting stuff.

I have caught trout below the dams at Lynxville and Dubuque. Both were rainbows that probably had been washed out of some of the small streams. I did see a nice brown caught below the Dubuque dam thru the ice a few years ago. I don’t know if these trout are able to survive the whole year in the river. I would think the brown trout would have the best chance of surviving the warmer river waters. Brown trout can tollerate warmer trout streams than rainbows or brook trout can.

Dustin and James caught a dandy here a few weeks back, 3 or 4 pounds if I remember right. Brett King caught one that looked to be over 5 from a picture I saw, and another gent caught one that looked to be a couple of pounds. There are more and more of them showing up! Maybe it is a good testament as to the water quality of the Mississippi. Hay Creek and the Trimbelle both have Browns in them, so it is pretty easy to see where they may be coming from. Oh, and length, Ben’s was about 18″ and LeRoys appeared to be quite a bit bigger than that. He didn’t measure it.
