Good morning guys and gals. I am new to this site. I am wondering if I could get a little advice from some of you. I have a 12 year old boy who is just nuts about fishing.I have taken him to a pond near our home to do a little panfishing but the fish just won’t cooperate.I was wondering if someone could give me a place to fish either from shore or from boat for panfish and bass and walleye around Prescott down to Hager City on the Mississippi. Thanks in advance for your help. The boy will be thrilled.

There is usually pretty good shorefishing for walleye/sauger in Prescott, in the vicinity of the boat launch, during late April/early May. Just watch for the big collection of boats (or this site) to tell you when the action is starting. If you have access to a boat, most people will vertical jig in the vicinity of the bridges or drift downstream from the bridges down to the marina just past the boat launch. You can drag crawlers on a harness or jig/minnow combos. You should be able to get a few tugs on the little guy’s line. Hopefully somebody more familiar with that area (Tuck or BrianK) can chime in with a few more ideas for you. Good luck!

    Hi Doc….welcome to the site.
Another option that would be really fun for you and your sone…..keep your eyes on the trip swap forum….very often IDA members post that they have an open seat or 2 for a day of fishing on Pools 2, 3 and 4. Just respond to them split the costs and have a fun day. Everyone I have met from this site is a class act and fun to be around so you will meet some great people and probably catch some fish if you go this route.

One of the best shore bites I know of is the Prescott bite spoke of ahead of me. Usually a 1/4 ounce H20 jig with a BFT Ringworm, Purple & White tail and at some times Chartruese/White core. If the current is strong, shorten the worm by about 1/2 inch to increase the drop rate. You want to cast out as far as you can, and reel it back in close to the bottom. There is a fishing pier next to the Highway 10 bridge on the Minnesota side, and also a pier in Prescott WI next to the boat launch. Live bait with no roll sinkers are another option. The key is to watch this website, and when you hear that the bite is on, head over there. If it is just a tug on the line you are looking for, grab some crawlers and some sinkers, and carp, cats, suckers and sheepies will keep you busy right now.
    Good luck!

I think eye-guide and brooktrout sumed it up best for ease of fishing now.

Scroll down the the MN forum and watch the Mississippi Walleye Forum in the Mississippi River Forum. Also watch the St Croix Forum.

Thanks for registering! We’ll be looking forward to seeing your son with some fish! Don’t forget a camera!

One nearly fool proof methods for catching Miss eyes is just to head to Pool 2 one weeknight evening (less traffic seems to help) tie on some diving cranks and troll from the MN River confluence up to the Ford Dam in 7′ of water.

This bite starts at the end of this month and goes well into September.

Other methods will get bigger fish, but this will produce numbers of eyes. My 5 year old loves going and I have gotten my neighbor and his 2 boys addicted to it as well.

Easy, relaxing (ex a ton of snags) fishing!

If you want more info or specifics, just ask.
