Doe’s anyone ever fish pool 3? It seems to me it would be as good as 4 ,or is it not open for fishing from the St. Croix?

Pool 3 is open for business from Prescott down to the lock in Red Wing. The dam in Hastings is off limits until the opener. There are many wing dams in Pool 3, and also some backwaters when you get down towards the dam. Yes, at times Pool 3 is every bit as good as Pool 4.

Spant all afternoon on pool 3. Put in at Prescott, and worked several miles south. The water clarity from the St.Croix was awesome. I fished wingdams, eddy’s, points, and deeper holes. 0 fish??? I thought it would be as good if not better than pool 4. Only saw a handful of boats. I’ll have to see the reports on pool 4 to see how they did.

The only thing that I got was a parking ticket from the City of Prescott.

For whatever reason, Pool 3 is a lot slower than Pool four to get going. That is why I spend so much time on Pool four this time of year. Pool 3 does not have the luxury of Lake Pepin to draw huge amounts of fish from. Pool three does have the dam in Hastings which is closed to fishing until the inland opener. I would imagine that there is quite a crowd of fish there right now. We had quite a draught of shiners in Pool three this last year. I believe this has had quite an impact on the walleye fishing on both Pool three and the Croix.

From my experience pool 3 takes a little longer to get going. I can usually start picking up fish the first or second week in May when the troll bite starts to take off. Lots of wing Dams to fish watch the water levels close in the summer them rock do a number on the prop. Whatsa
